Cake Decorator

Position Location: Dunbar

We are looking for a Cake Decorator to join our team who will design and decorate cakes according to customers’ specifications and preferences. The responsibilities for this role include taking customers’ cake orders, recording instructions and special requests, providing suitable recommendations on cake decorations and designs, and packaging bakery items; while ensuring that all bakery products are stored in accordance with proper product handling procedures to ensure freshness and prevent contamination.

The ideal candidate will have two (2) years of experience decorating cakes, and keeping up to date on the latest styles, techniques, and trends in cake decoration. Ultimately, we are looking for a top-notch cake decorator who is able to demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with customers, design, and decorate requested cake designs and cake decorating ideas for specialty cakes; then, conceptualize and create unique and visually stunning cake creations
• Decorate regular bakery items according to our established bakery brand
• Produce different kinds of icing, frosting, and cake fillings based on cake type and customer preferences
• Maintain that the display refrigerators are cleaned, polished, and fully stocked with cakes, pastries, and desserts
• Ensure the store is clean, safe and ready for shoppers
• Maintaining and building various bakery department displays
• Rotation, loading and unloading of bakery department product
• Backroom and inventory management
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• A minimum of two (2) years of cake decorating experience
• Proven customer service or retail experience is a plus
• Great attention to detail
• Good communication and people skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand during scheduled shift, withstand repetitive walking, reaching, and bending for long periods of time
• Able to lift up to 40 pounds at times
• Able to work in an environment with common bakery allergens such as flour and nuts

Hourly Rate:

$17.15/hour starting wage (plus shift premiums as applicable)
