Shop Helper

The shop helper will be working under a team of experienced mechanics to help maintain a clean, organized and safe work space. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to assist and work on a variety of heavy trucks, heavy equipment, pick up trucks, and small engines. Pending good performance and proven aptitude for the work, there may be an opportunity for a 310T heavy truck and coach apprenticeship.

Salary: $20-$24/hr, dependent on experience

Responsibilities

• Grinding and painting equipment
• Cleaning vehicle and equipment cabs
• Pressure washing pick-up trucks, dump trucks and heavy equipment
• Polish wheels
• Cleaning and organizing the shop and yard
• Assist team with welding, cutting and fabrication
• Assist mechanics with oil changes, tire changes, and various repairs on a wide variety of heavy equipment and trucks
• Other duties will be assigned as required

Desired Skills and Experience

• Prior experience working in a shop and mechanical environment is preferred
• Experience with a wide variety of hand and power tools, mechanically inclined
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions
• Must be safety conscious
• Excellent team player
• Strong attention to detail
• Great communication skills
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Must be enthusiastic and willing to learn
• Must be punctual and personable
• Must obtain WHMIS, Working at Heights and Occupational Health and Safety training
