FIFA World Cup 26™ will be the biggest sporting event ever, with three Host Countries, 16 Host Cities, 48 teams and 104 matches uniting an entire continent to showcase a momentous new tournament format. With more countries, cities, teams and games, FIFA World Cup 26™ will be the most inclusive tournament ever, engaging millions of fans across 16 unique stadiums and billions worldwide. This position is responsible for successfully supporting established Vancouver festivals and events balanced with the FIFA World Cup 26™ host city obligations through the creation of tangible solutions with a variety of event organizers impacted in 2026.
The City of Vancouver has a rich and established history of special events and festivals that our community has grown to associate with summer in Vancouver. In 2026, the Host City obligations for FIFA World Cup 26™will place restrictions on a number of these annual events. This position will focus on how the City can work with these “parallel events” during the FIFA World Cup 26™ period to try to find solutions for each identified impacted event.
This position is within the Public Space & Street Use (PSSU) division, and will work as a liaison between the Film and Special Events team within Engineering Services, the FIFA Secretariat, and a number of event and festival organizers. The role will report directly to the Director of PSSU while initially working with organizers to understand the individual needs and scale of creative solutions. As the work progresses, additional roles and work within PSSU will be developed to support the public realm experience during this exciting sporting event. This role will grow within the divisional work as we progress towards 2026.
The Operations Manager, Parallel Events will provide leadership in creative problem solving, establishing lines of transparent communication with key partners all while working towards the safe and successful use of the City’s streets and open spaces by events and festivals in 2026. The position will work directly with FASE event officers and in collaboration with various departments across the City as well as external agencies such as the Province, Destination Vancouver, BIAs, Translink, private venue operators and local tourism operators.
The successful candidate will be organized, curious, fast-paced, politically aware, and reliable.

A current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher and a satisfactory driving recordWhere operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
