Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is looking for a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join the Ultrasound team at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!


As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Work in a team-based environment and is responsible for the clinical experience of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) students and/or staff during their rotation through the hospital.
  • Work in close collaboration with the academic institutions to organize the training program and coordinate training activities for students/staff within DMS.
  • Perform duties including:
    • instructing students/staff in technical and therapeutic procedures, implementing an evaluation system to evaluate student/staff progress during clinical training,
    • acting as a liaison between the academic institutions and hospital personnel and maintaining various training records and manuals.
  • Demonstrate expertise and leadership in DMS and performs technical and diagnostic procedures, as required.
Qualifications:


Education & Experience

  • Certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Sonography Canada including successful completion of the Sonography Canada Skills Assessment.
  • Graduate of a recognized training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • A minimum of four (4) years' recent, related ultrasound experience including ultrasound guided interventional procedures and one (1) year recent experience in a supervisory and/or teaching role supplemented with successful completion of recognized clinical instruction courses, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Two (2) years’ recent breast ultrasound scanning experience required.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for DMS procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the aseptic techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with imaging equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of imaging acquisition applications and digital imaging storage and distribution networks such as PACS.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, medical personnel, other health care staff both one-to-one and in-groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop training manuals and students, instructional material, examinations, and assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and train staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and to establish workload prioritizes in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement training plans.
  • Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated continuous education pathway.
  • Skill in the use of equipment, and in techniques appropriate to area of specialty.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
