Payroll Specialist – Burnaby, BC

The Role:

Our Accounting & Finance team is looking for an experience Payroll Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Controller, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll for our Union and Non-Union teams, and both salaried and commission-based pay, as well as monthly and yearly payroll responsibilities. If you are someone who has a high level of detail, strong organization, and time management skills, and is look for a fun, engaging and dedicated work environment, this could be the role for you!

YOUR core responsibilities:

  • Process both union and non-union payrolls bi-weekly for hourly and salary employees, including new hires, terminations, salary changes and the calculation of all necessary earnings, garnishments, and other deductions.

  • Process and run bi-monthly commission payroll.

  • Prepare various payroll reports and analysis following each pay period.

  • Prepare year end T4s, T4As, T2200s and prepare ROEs as required.

  • Prepare, update, and reconcile monthly RRSP contributions, extended health benefits, WCBs and Employer Health Tax.

  • Provide monthly and ad-hoc analysis on employee earnings and overall personnel expenses, including variance analysis.

  • Liaise with the HR Department to ensure all personnel records are accurate and up to date.

  • Accounting & budgeting related duties:

  • Post and prepare all required payroll accounting transactions for each payroll, including monthly reconciliations of General Ledger payroll accounts.

  • Perform month-end payroll processes and prepare working papers related to payroll.

  • Prepare and update annual payroll budget and budget assumptions.

  • Prepare the monthly commission calculations and statements.


What YOU BRING to Watson Gloves:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of payroll processing, with experience in a Union Environment.

  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency.

  • Highly organized, detail orientated with ability to problem solve, show continuous improvements.

  • Strong skillset in MS Office, with experience in MS Teams, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Time Tracking Systems, and Payroll software.

  • Relevant post-secondary education in Accounting, preferred.

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or enrolled in PCP Certification program is an asset.
