JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Guardian Manager
REPORTS TO: Natural Resource Administrator
Overall Purpose:
The Guardian Manager shall coordinate and administer the Nation’s Guardian
Watchmen Program. The Guardian Manager shall execute Council strategic plans and priorities and administer the daily operations within the program. The Guardian
Manager will develop collaborative working relationships with other agencies such as,
Nations in the shared territory, Nanwakolas, A’Tlegay Fisheries, Department of
Fisheries and Oceans, Aquaculture organizations, Forestry companies, Provincial,
Federal and Local Government delegates and various funding agencies. This individual will engage with administrative staff as well as Wei Wai Kum members and community members, and will be a representative of Wei Wai Kum Guardian initiatives within the
Territory. This person will serve as a guide and mentor for multiple Guardian staff who will train and become experts in the ancestral rights and responsibilities, they have to take care of their lands, waters, wildlife and food sources for future generations.
Responsibilities include:
Primary Duties
- Implementing the strategic vision, goals, and objectives of the Wei Wai Kum
Chief and Council
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and effective team leadership and collaboration
- Work Collaboratively with the Assistant Manager, Natural Resource
Administrator, Cultural Heritage Resource Coordinator, and Administrative staff
- Develop and implement work plans and schedules
- Supervising staff by providing direction, guidance, assigning tasks, and supporting their learning

- Liason with other Guardian programs, other governments and organizations, coordinating joint activates where appropriate.
- Complete reports of all field findings and invoice for time to appropriate parties in a timely matter
- Ensure polices and procedures are in place for all Guardian Watchmen activities to allow for clear direction and a safe working environment
- Responsible for the Heydon Bay camp and the maintenance of the assets at the site
- Complete evaluations for all guardian watchmen crew annually
Communication/Liaison
- Regular updates and meetings with the Natural Resource Administrator, Senior
Manager of Operations.
- Quarterly updates to Chief, Council and Membership
- Ensure reports are done on a timely basis to appropriate agencies
- Participate and present at various educational events upon request
- Liaise with other agencies as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supervising staff
- Research and reporting skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Experience working within a First Nations environment is preferred
- Experience with Environment Natural Resource Management
- Ability to work some flexible hours and under minimum supervision
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Strong analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, and executive skills

- Ability to read and interpret financial reports, statements and prepare annual budgets for the program
- Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes
- Ability to manage several projects at one time
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Full-time employment 5 days (40 hours) per week.
- Hours of work: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May be required to work occasional evenings or weekends.
- Must abide by the Human Resource Policy Manual and other Band Policies that may affect this position.
Renumeration: $66,518.00-82,992.00 annually
