Responsibilities, Duties and Tasks
Working under the direction of the General Manager, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Workplace Safety
-
Promotes and practices safety in the work place at all times
-
Complies with all safety rules and practices as set by Occupational Health and Safety, WBM and any and all other relevant safety regulations and requirements
Customer Service
-
Ensures commitments for delivery and quality are met in a cost effective and efficient manner
-
Provides quality customer service to internal and external clients by responding to requests in a prompt and expeditious manner, and by producing quality service workmanship
Human Resources Management
-
Manages the Shop personnel by:
-
Recruiting, interviewing, and selecting the best candidate for the right job when necessary,
-
Continuous feedback to employees
-
Conducting formal performance evaluations on staff on a regular basis and/or informal evaluations on an as needed basis
-
Recommending salary adjustments, transfers, promotions, etc.

Planning staffing coverage for employees on leave
-
Addressing human resources issues in a timely manner
-
Offering appropriate training to staff to increase the ability to do their job better
-
Terminating employment in accordance with statutory regulations

Cultivating successors

Supervises staff and monitors productivity by:
-
Scheduling and assigning projects and ensuring deadlines are met
-
Checking and reviewing the work of more junior staff and ensuring work is completed with a high degree of accuracy prior to finalization and delivery

Implements timely corrective actions

Enforces government legislation and all company policies and procedures pertaining to human resources, administration, and safety
Communication

Communicates to the operations, sales and engineering staff immediately of production problems that may delay orders

Communicates to Management all pertinent production concerns
Productivity

Applies capacity planning and scheduling program

Resolves work problems and recommends effective, practical work measures to improve productivity and product quality

Establishes methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments

Ensures resources and necessary tools are available to employees to complete assigned projects
Quality Control and Inspection

Promotes continuous improvement of product and streamlines procedures without compromising on product quality or endangering the health and well being of employees

Discusses solutions with personnel/ customers on issues pertaining to re-work and warranties
-
Collaborates to identify preventative measures to ensure errors are not repeated and product quality is increased
Other Duties

Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Education
-
A high school diploma
-
Alberta Journeyman Ticket or Red Seal Certification in Welding
-
Supervisory training
Experience
-
A minimum of 10 years of directly related experience, of which 2 years must be at a supervisory level
Knowledge
-
Knowledge of all safety practices
-
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing
-
Good understanding of human resources management
Skills

Leadership skills to guide and lead the Team

Supervisory skills to train, discipline and guide staff

Ability to train new Supervisors or Lead Hands

Strong interpersonal skills to relate to staff at all levels
