Schedule: Full time - 36 hours/week or greater Shift: 12 Hour Day Shift (United States of America) Weekly Work Schedule: day shift 12 hour positions Job Information Exemption Status: Non-Exempt A Brief Overview Pediatric and Young Adult Center nurses care for patients across the life span, including newborns through adulthood. Successful pediatric nurses are compassionate, caring, and adaptable. They have a broad knowledge of general pediatric nursing care as well as adult management and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This role allows for a wide range of versatility in both pediatric, neonatal and adult clinical practice. They perform a wide range of clinical nursing tasks such as direct patient care, conducting assessments, and administering medication. The pediatric nurse will discuss a child's symptoms and medical history, provide initial care, administer prescribed medication, and monitor the patient's progress. The pediatric nurse will also collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and provide support to families to address their concerns, fears, problems, and decisions. Education Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred Skills and Abilities Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency) Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency) Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning. Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution. (Required proficiency) Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills. (Required proficiency) Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods. (Required proficiency) Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Preferred proficiency) Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required Basic Life Support - BLS Must have within 90 days of hire. RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department. Pediatric Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider - Magnet - CPHON - Magnet Required only for staff administering chemotherapy Pediatric Advanced Life Support - PALS For staff providing sedation assistance Preferred Certified Pediatric Nurse - PNCB - Magnet Preferred Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization - PEARS Preferred What you will do Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting. Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential problems, and issues. Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation. Develops a collaborative plan encompassing strategies to achieve expected outcomes. Implements identified plan through coordination of care and employs strategies to promote health and wellness. Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect. Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas, supports the effectiveness of professional relationships, and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice.
