POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:
To maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, driveways, and sidewalks of the facility and to assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining physical structures, equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems.
MAJOR TASK STATEMENTS & REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES:
Percentage of time:
20% - Install and repair components of physical structures.
SUPERVISION OF: None.
SUPERVISION BY: Team Leader provides general to minimal supervision. Work is reviewed through discussions and on the basis of the quality/quantity of statistical data provided to management. Supervision may range from close to minimal, dependent upon facility, and/or service area.
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY:
INTERNAL: All levels of Court staff.
EXTERNAL: Service contractors and supply vendors.
PRIMARY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS & MATERIALS USED: Hand and power tools, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry materials, lumber, dry wall, cargo van, lawn tractor, work orders and logs, cargo van, and backhoe.

20% - Install and repair components of physical structures.
- Maintain physical structures by performing installation and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and systems, such as switches, outlets, computer cabling, and plumbing pipes. fittings/fixtures, such as sinks, toilets, and water heaters. Physical components of structures, such as windows, doors, ceilings, sheet rock, woodwork, locks, and fences.
- Maintain physical structures or areas which requires application of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills. Use of carpenter hand/power tools.
- Maintain heating and cooling systems by operation checks, and minor repair/maintenance.
- Carries a pager and responds to problems as required, which may involve return to work site.
- Install phones and phone wiring. Troubleshoot and repair phone connectivity/equipment issues.
- Run cabling and wires for computer network, and connecting computers to network.
- Perform routine maintenance of and minor repairs and tune up of vehicles, lawn tractors and mowers.
- Mow lawn trim shrubbery and weeds and remove or clear snow and ice by use of lawn tractor, hand tools or other means.
- Mix and pour concrete to repair walkways or other areas.
- Lift, move and transport furniture, equipment, building and construction materials, and other items.
- Ensure pathways, stairs, outdoor structures are safe.
- Prepare outdoor areas for various weather conditions (e.g. hot and cold seasons).
- Repair electrical appliances such as mixers, can openers, refrigerator/freezer, stoves, and televisions.
- Perform related work as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience in grounds keeping is required. One year directly related work experience in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work is preferred. On the job training in specialized skills such as plumbing, carpentry and electrical will be provided.

- Must have and provide proof of a valid driver’s license from state of residence.
- Must have and provide proof of having auto liability insurance, and properly licensed, reliable vehicle.
- Must submit to and pass sex offender registry check, and MO/KS child abuse & neglect checks.
- Must submit to and pass criminal background check as prescribed by the Court.
- All applicants for this position are subject to testing for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Employees in this position are subject to random and reasonable suspicion testing for illegal drug use.
- Final employment offer is contingent on successfully passing physical exam and physical abilities performance testing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of and skills in carpentry, plumbing and electrical systems and methods, and mechanical and vehicular repair and maintenance sufficient to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of and ability to safely operate lawn mowers, snow blowers, trimmers, tillers and a variety of hand and power carpentry tools.
- Basic knowledge of building code requirements.
- Knowledge of and ability to read and interpret building and construction blueprints.
- Ability to lift and transport furniture, office equipment, and building supplies.
- Ability to lawfully operate a vehicle in a safe and prudent manner.
- Ability to maintain records and submit in a timely manner.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
- Ability to plan, organize and schedule work.
- Ability to perform duties effectively, timely, and without supervision.
- Ability to work and relate in a positive fashion toward individuals from diverse backgrounds and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to install/detach surveillance equipment, using a variety of small hand tools.
