The UHealth Neurology department has a great opportunity for a Social Worker. The Social Worker, MSW provides social services to patients and their families, including counseling and support. Moreover, this position establishes a plan of care that fosters personal worth, spiritual well-being, and human dignity in each patient.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Interview patients, caregivers and others to obtain data on personal, social, medical and emotional history to provide information on personality and behavior for diagnosis and treatment; evaluate patient data, select appropriate social work methods and implement treatment programs.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team contributing to diagnostic and treatment plans developed for patient care; present social history to medical staff pertinent to diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Participate in individual, couples, and group psychotherapy sessions including Medicare billing for patients and families.
- Provide concrete social work to patients and families, advise caregivers and other relatives on available social, medical and psychiatric services; conduct conferences to assist in solving patient-family relationship problems.
- Prepare reports concerning history and treatment of patients; provide consultation to Medical Center staff and community social agencies regarding the handling of psycho-social problems; maintain relevant case records and statistics.
- Evaluate data gathered in terms of the medical or psychiatric plan of treatment, available social service programs and knowledge of casework or group-work.
- Prepare and maintain a case record for each patient to describe the nature of social problems and services suggested or provided.
- Assist patients and their families, through individual or group conferences, to understand, accept and follow therapy plans; provide services planned to improve or restore patients to optimum social and mental health.
- Maintain liaison with community agencies; participate in area activities related to health and welfare services.
- Participate in research activities by assisting in the collection of data, initiating research under supervision as appropriate.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master’s degree in Social Work
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
