Job Purpose
Brenner Recycling is a locally owned and operated scrap recycling facility; purchasing, preparing, and transporting unwanted post-consumer items and industrial scrap for recycling into new raw materials.
Torchman prepares materials for shipment by cutting various metals to a specified size using an oxygen / acetylene and / or an oxygen / propane hand torch.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Cut materials to specified size using an oxygen / acetylene and / or oxygen / propane hand torch
- Receive unprocessed materials and sort / separate the materials by grade, inventory, type, and family to specification
- Communicate with supervisor and other employees through verbal, written, and / or radio communication
- Maintain work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition at all times
- Cooperate with and exhibit respect to other employees, customers, and visitors
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED certification, or six months to one year related experience and / or training required
- This is a safety-sensitive position. Therefore, ability to operate in an alert and safe manner is required.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical required
- Ability to proficiently speak and understand written and verbal English required
- Basic knowledge of the physical characteristics used to identify ferrous and non-ferrous metals preferred
- Will provide training, but previous possession of operator's certificate / license for the operation of forklifts, skid-steers, and other mobile equipment preferred
- Previous experience in a scrap facility preferred
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving equipment and machinery; scrap materials, and outside weather conditions.
The employee is regularly required to wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, safety-toe shoes, hardhat, protective eyewear, gloves, and hearing protection.
Workload may be unpredictable and pressure can be substantial during peak times.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is frequently required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to pounds, frequently lift and / or move up to pounds, and occasionally lift and / or move up to pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- PPE : They must have their own safety-toed boots (steel or composite is acceptable). They must also wear properly fitting long-pants to work (for this position, jeans are preferred since they are a tougher material and the employee will be working with flame).
- English speaking and understanding required for safety purposes : Yes but can speak Spanish as well but must understand English for safety.
- Other information : Be reliable, show up to work on time, and put in an honest day's worth of effort. We will provide training, but if they have prior knowledge of ferrous (iron and steel) vs.
nonferrous (aluminum, brass, copper, stainless, etc.) metal and any previous experience operating an oxygen / propane torch to cut metal that's a big plus
