What are the responsibilities and job description for the Memory Care Manager position at 2LIFE COMMUNITIES?
Support the needs of and focus activities for a diverse population of older adults that includes residents with Alzheimer’s and/or other dementias, individuals on the spectrum, and persons with sensory deficits. Oversee the creation and delivery of interactive programming (1:1 and group) focused on music and other arts related approaches that rely on imagination and meaningful engagement instead of memory and emphasize or bring out remaining strengths instead of lost skills.
This is an in-person, on site position that requires travel across 2Life campuses.
- Work collaboratively with Resident Services and Fitness Teams and the Director of Health and Aging Programs to develop and deliver in-person (1:1 and group) holistic, resident-centric, dementia care programming that focuses on the physical and mental wellness of older adults
- Guide and mentor Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy and other interns working with special populations as noted above
- Supervise Joyful Connections employee and support Joyful Connections programs and participants on all campuses and expand access to a larger population
- Expand collaborations with and outreach to individual expressive arts specialists, academic institutions, and other organizations to increase 2Life’s effectiveness in working with this population
- Participate in team meetings as needed to support campus programming, and maintain an open line of communication to direct supervisor and Resident Services, Group Services, and Fitness Teams
- Encourage participation in Therapeutic Arts programming, including but not limited to Joyful Connections
- Maintain timely documentation and record keeping of participant involvement and services provided
REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Expressive Arts Therapy, Gerontology, or a related field with a focus on aging and a minimum of three years’ experience working with residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in an independent living or other residential setting
- Strong experience working with a diverse population of older adults, using music/art/movement and other arts modalities to encourage physical and mental wellness, and a strong understanding about working with people with dementia.
- Cultural competency/interest in the diverse population currently served by 2Life; Diverse individuals or individuals who are bilingual is a plus
- Flexibility and initiative to respond to changing needs of clients and organizations
- Ability to effectively use MS and Google Docs Suites; familiarity with Salesforce desired but not required
- Have sufficient transportation to travel as needed between all 2Life locations
