Our Agency

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities and hospital services.

Georgia Regional Hospital at Savannah (GRHS) is a state-funded multi-service facility operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. The hospital provides quality care to mentally ill adults and individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities from its 34-county catchment area in Southeast Georgia. GRHS opened in December of 1970 with a design to decentralize mental health services in the state and treat people nearer to their homes and families. The hospital provides evaluation and treatment to clients needing care. The hospital's admitting office is a psychiatric emergency receiving facility open 24 hours a day.

GRHS is seeking candidates for the position of Registered Nurse – 2nd Shift. This is a full-time position and eligible for State Benefits. This position will work 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

 

Job Summary - Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

·         Assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records.

·         Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled clients.

·         May advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.

·         Administers prescribed medications or starts intravenous fluids, and notes times and amounts on clients' charts.

·         Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care plans. Maintains accurate, detailed reports and client records.

·         Modifies client treatment plans as indicated by clients' responses and conditions.

·         Monitors all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity.

·         Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in clients' conditions.

·         Observes nurses and visits clients to ensure that proper nursing care is provided.

·         Prepares clients for, and assists with, examinations and treatments.

·         Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that stock of supplies is maintained.

·         Provides education to client and family.

·         Provides health care, first aid, immunizations and assistance in convalescence and rehabilitation

 

FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE BACKGROUND CHECK AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT. 

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:  Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience: 

·         Valid Georgia License and/or Nurse Licensure Compact Multi-State License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in Georgia.

·         Experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred but not required.

Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university AND current Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse AND any related professional work experience.
