What We’re Looking For:

The Vice President (VP) of Tax will offer dedicated tax support to all divisions within 2U, Inc. and will be responsible for leading and managing 2U’s worldwide tax reporting and compliance activities, continuous tax process improvement, planning, and special projects.  The VP of Tax will work directly with c-suite level executives, including the President and Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, and various cross functional teams, both domestically and internationally to ensure adequacy of global tax compliance procedures, understand tax issues as they arise, and assess implications to the Company and its entities.   The VP of Tax will manage the tax department and oversee all tax matters through coordination with Company’s representatives and advisors. We’re seeking a hands-on/high energy contributor; a strong project manager, highly detail oriented, adept at delivering results, and have demonstrated success in delivering exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Manage the planning and organizing of all worldwide tax initiatives, including but not limited to tax compliance, tax planning and implementation of tax and business organization strategies for federal, international and state and local tax filings
  • Manage all aspects of the Company’s worldwide ASC 740 income tax provision process, accounting and related financial statement disclosures; explain and discuss these items with senior management and the independent auditors
  • Regularly meet and advise senior manager regarding tax benefits and risks and relationships between operational decisions and activities
  • Establish and maintain formal tax policies, practices and procedures to ensure US GAAP compliance and strong internal controls
  • Lead the assessment and direction of tax planning associated with M&A activity, organizational structure and / or other company strategic initiatives such as new products or growth in new markets
  • Provide oversight and consultation into the design of critical tax accounting processes and technology improvement related to financial statement reporting
  • Forecast and analyze quarterly and annual effective tax rates
  • Manage and lead discussions with external business partners and tax advisors, as well as federal, state, local and foreign governmental agencies
  • Proactively monitor pending legislation, assessing potential impact and advising senior / executive management on potential implications
  • Prepare and collaborate with Finance and Accounting to ensure completeness and accuracy of income tax disclosures and help establish and ensure appropriate controls over accounting for income taxes
  • Provide guidance on proposed and enacted tax legislation, keeping abreast of tax law changes in the US and foreign jurisdictions to manage risk and identify potential planning opportunities
  • Review and provide oversight of domestic and international tax filings for both income and indirect taxes
  • Investigate and resolve inquiries from taxing authorities as necessary

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Certified Public Accountant, preferred
  • 15 to 20 years of U.S. and international tax experience, with both public accounting firm and private industry experience
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of U.S. corporate tax and international tax laws
  • Significant international tax, transfer pricing and legal entity structuring experience
  • Track record of success in leading, managing, coaching, and developing high performance teams
  • Outstanding project and program management skills
  • Experience in working with all levels of management, staff, consultants, attorneys and taxing authorities
  • Strong conceptual and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge in public reporting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and related analytical tools

The anticipated base salary range for this role is ($175,000 - $200,000), with potential bonus and equity eligibility.  Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, budget for the position and cost of labor in the market in which the candidate will be hired.
