The Production Manager provides leadership and daily direction to all assigned manufacturing departments. This highly visible position leads all manufacturing related activities in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, and cost control through consistent adherence to company policies and procedures. The Production Manager establishes and maintains a culture of empowerment and continuous improvement. One of the most important aspects of this role is directing, developing, and motivating a high-performing team of Production Supervisors.
Responsibilities
Safety
Creates a safety focused culture. Ensures compliance to all safety policies, procedures and PPE requirements.
Ensure compliance with all government regulatory requirements.
Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized and Tour Ready facility
Quality
Maintain ISO compliant manufacturing records.
Provide leadership and adequate resources to support site quality systems.
Ensure compliance to all site quality policies and procedures.
Delivery
Ensure compliance and attainment to daily production schedule. Understands production schedule process and issues that prevent achieving attainment goal. Develops actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Partner with the Materials Management function to ensure timely, effective and efficient procurement, planning, inventory levels and delivery of finished goods. Active participant in S&OP process
Responsible for Inventory accuracy and ERP system integrity across their areas of responsibility.
Cost
Plan, organize, and direct the manufacturing function to ensure the most effective return on assets. Manage spending against budget and in relation to production volume
Partner with Finance function to provide accurate operational information and establish product costs and update standard assumptions
Develops and communicates key departmental metrics to ensure budget and financial forecasts are developed and met.
Initiate plans and processes to minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials and capital.
Responsible for driving the implementation of cost improvement programs to consistently maintain a cost competitive edge in the manufacturing of products.
Direct or support the effective implementation of capital investment projects approved for capacity or facility expansion and upgrades
People
Interact regularly with Operations Frontline Leaders and production employees to provide direction, effective communication and leadership while being a visible presence in manufacturing area
Partner with the Human Resources function to ensure effective management of human capital.
Builds an engaged and high-performing team of supervisors through training, development, feedback, and accountability.
Through leveraged knowledge of current technology and market trends, participates in the definition of advanced products required to sustain a cost effective competitive position.
Establish management practices in department to encourage employees’ positive involvement, with the opportunity for constructive input and action
Empower direct reports to execute and support them when they need guidance/assistance. Hold them accountable to meeting expectations. Mentor your direct reports through timely and effective feedback. Hold regular 1:1’s.
Conduct operations meetings and periodic plant communications meetings. Ensure effective communication with all employees.
Ensure effective labor utilization within departments to allow for maximum return on labor investment.
Owns training plan(s) for all team members. Ensures team is following established SOP’s, JI’s, etc.
Strategy
Establish and maintain a culture of continuous improvement, quality, high performance and process excellence
Establish team and individual accountabilities for problem solving and cost reduction.
Responsible for directing and executing planning process to drive operational excellence through continuous improvement activities in the department.
Participate in long-term strategic planning involving the optimum utilization of 3A’s assets and human resources.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field preferred
At least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role in manufacturing (preferably extrusion / lamination processes).
Experience working in a union environment
Experience measuring and presenting on operational performance metrics
Knowledge of various manufacturing processes. Lean/Six Sigma experience preferred
Exhibits strong interpersonal skills that are necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Skilled in developing high-performing teams through situational leadership.
Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (ideally SAP).
