Senior Buyer / Planner

Location: Glasgow, Kentucky

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Primary Purpose: The Senior Buyer/Planner plays a critical role at 3A by managing the purchasing, materials requirements planning, supplier relationship management, and supply-related issue escalation and resolution for all raw materials, MRO materials, equipment, services, and resale items for 3A Composites on a daily basis for the lowest possible cost and within a timeframe needed to support production and sales. 3A’s supply base includes both domestic and foreign supplier partners.

 

Key Responsibilities

This position is responsible for and manages the materials planning and procurement of raw materials for a respective 3A Composites’ facility and is responsible for the purchasing activities related to MRO items, equipment, services, and items for resale. This role also provides backup and vacation coverage for Buyers at other facilities and supports cross-facility projects required to help meet cost savings goals and objectives.

  • Establishes procurement plans and makes procurement decisions regarding raw materials, MRO items, capital equipment, and services on a daily basis.
  • Ensures continuity of supply for raw materials, MRO items, capital equipment, and services needed to maintain production.
  • Prepares, issues, and administers purchase orders to keep operations running and able to meet customer requirements on a timely basis, ensuring a consistent flow of orders that support the facility in an effective, cost efficient manner.
  • Locates, selects, and maintains a database of potential sources of supply to assure a quick supplier engagement when needs arise.
  • Develops and implements strategies to negotiate lower costs for raw materials, MRO items, capital equipment, and plant services.
  • Creates processes and uses MRP to follow-up on back orders, late deliveries, expedited deliveries, and the creation or cancelation of orders.
  • Responds to immediate and emergency needs from the plant floor. After emergencies are resolved, assesses the situation and puts in place corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence in the future.
  • Makes sure information is created and shared with external suppliers and internal customers in a timely and accurate manner. Information can include purchase orders, material releases, delivery schedules, RMAs, invoices with complete information, and goods receipts.
  • Reviews 3A purchasing procedures and helps to develop SOP’s as needed to ensure facility practices are in compliance with corporate policy.
  • Serves as a resource on 3A Purchasing Policy for the plant and associated internal customers.

 

What You Will Bring to the Role

  • Minimum of five (5) years purchasing, material requirements planning, inventory management, risk management, supplier relationship management, plant engineering and/or other relevant business experience (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, operations management, business, economics, engineering or equivalent (required)
  • Extensive MRP/ERP knowledge (required)
  • SAP knowledge in procurement area (preferred)
  • Supply chain-related professional association membership in APICS, ISM, SCC, or American Purchasing Society (preferred)
  • CSCP, CPIM, CPP or equivalent certifications in procurement or inventory management (preferred)
  • Exemplary interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, set priorities, and achieve deadlines
  • Demonstrable experience in program/project management
  • Willingness to travel to supplier locations and other 3A facilities as needed
