Definition:
The Technical Estimator is responsible for developing solutions and estimating the cost of those solutions based on request for quote (RFQs) data submitted by a sales team and prospective customers. This includes analyzing specifications including sketches, drawings and sample layouts; creating scope of work drawings to convey project solution intent and communicating the scope of the project clearly to the internal team and external customers.
The ideal candidate needs to be a strong team player, who is proactive and possesses creative problem solving skills. Responsiveness to customers and colleagues is key for success.
This role is customer facing and requires project phone calls and meetings with Material Consultants and prospective customers to determine scope and project requirements prior to building an estimate. The ideal candidate needs to be professional and confident when speaking on a conference call especially when discussing possible technical solutions with our customers.
This role will require working closely with the internal engineering and project management teams to ensure project success.The Technical Estimator will be expected to apply their technical experience to help mentor and strengthen the rest of the estimating team.
The Technical Estimator will report directly to the Estimating Manager and once training is completed, will be expected to be self sufficient requiring minimum oversight on a day to day basis.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read and interpret architectural / construction drawings is required.
- Ability to interpret architectural renderings, thumbnail sketches or other preliminary documentation and provide design solutions to meet design intent.
- Has working knowledge of construction quoting process
- Intermediate to Advanced Level – Rhino and AutoCAD are preferred
- Intermediate Level – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam
- Desirable but not required: Revit, SolidWorks, SketchUp or similar 3‐dimensional modeling experience.
Work Experience:
- 3 years experience in the architectural and / or construction industry.
- Experience working in a customer facing environment is a bonus.
