Job Description

Job Title: Convenience Store Clerk; Gas Station Cashier Clerk

Summary: Receives cash from customers or employees in payment for goods or services by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE FIRST, INVENTORY 2nd.
  • Runs cash register, gas machine, credit card machine, lottery machine and monitor’s security video.
  • Handle money accurately, balancing $100 cash drawer and $750 change till and using drop envelopes.
  • Paper work includes, daily sheet, shift reports, supply count sheet.
  • Receive merchandise and check in merchandise.
  • Stock and face shelves, changing pop bibs, creamer bibs, making coffee.
  • Cleaning deli equipment and deli area, bathrooms, shelves, windows, glass doors, cooler door tracks, floors and sweep parking lots. Empty trashes inside and out.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Within 90 days you must complete a Responsible Alcohol Sales class and pass the MT State test at the end for certification.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Math Ability:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Must have basic knowledge of computers.

Certificates and Licenses:

Pass scheduled class for Alcohol and Tobacco.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to see the computer screen to run the till, watch gas pumps and watch customers on the premises.
