What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Reporter position at 46 - SNG Research?
SUMMARY: Full-time reporter to produce engaging sports and news content for our print newspapers and digital sites with an emphasis on high school sports reporting, features and profiles. Position is 32 hours of sports and 8 hours of news. This position collaborates with other members of the Echo Press editorial team as well as editorial teams at other properties in Forum Communications, to develop the most creative and appealing content for our audience. Other responsibilities include:
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Receives and develops own ideas into relevant, well-written stories.
● Gathers and verifies information for stories through interviews, observations and research.
● Brainstorms digital storytelling formats and executes the technological components required.
● Incorporates multimedia aspects such as video, audio, and photography in all stories.
● Meets regularly with the team to discuss story ideas and content development.
● Writes audience-focused headlines.
● Assists with the digital publication through a content management system.
● Peer edits stories from other members of the team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
● Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or equivalent experience.
● Professional experience writing, AP style preferred.
● Knowledge of high school and college sports.
● Strong organizational skills.
● Ability to write clean, crisp copy in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
● Basic knowledge of video and photo editing.
● Knowledge of Freedom of Information Act and libel laws.
● Know how to use video and camera equipment and edit photos.
● Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by the company.
● Must have reliable transportation and carry an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required by the company.
