ABOUT THE ROLE

  • The Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for leading the multi-state payroll processing function for both exempt and non-exempt employees and supporting the company’s employees with benefits enrollment and leave requests. This role ensures the company’s payroll functions and requests for leave are processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with federal, state and local government regulations. The role is part of the cross-functional Legal, Compliance, and Human Resources department, and offers opportunities to contribute to company culture, stewardship, and employee engagement.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY

  • Implement, maintain and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of biweekly, multi-state payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes and other deductions.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Oversee the preparation of reports to internal stakeholders, government agencies, insurance companies and other organizations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws.
  • Address payroll issues and questions from employees; partnering with Finance as needed.
  • Ensure all off-cycle and special payroll runs are processed.
  • Administer employee benefits programs including enrollments, modifications, and terminations.
  • Process, reconcile and distribute annual W2 and 1095-C forms.
  • Administer and act as subject matter expert for the organization’s benefits programs including health insurance, life insurance, FMLA/STD and EAP.
  • Manage, coordinate, and process all leaves of absence.
  • Maintain all benefits plans documents.
  • Plan and administer annual open enrollment.
  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to internal and external auditors.
  • Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Accounting teams.
  • Assist in all areas to ensure the team, department, and company division maintain success.

AVAILABILITY

  • Monday to Friday, Full Time

COMPENSATION

  • Salaried $75,000-$85,000 DOE

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or experience equivalent.
  • 3 years’ multi-state payroll experience. Cannabis industry experience highly desirable.
  • 3 years’ HRIS payroll experience.
  • 2 years’ Benefits Administration experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local employment wage and hour laws.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills including the ability to create policies, procedures, and audit programs.
  • Understanding of Human Resources concepts, practices, policies and procedures.
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • 21 and currently residing in the USA.
  • Dispensing Organization Agent Identification Card (obtained upon hire).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual primarily will work indoors in an office or remote setting. The individual is required to wear personal protective equipment under appropriate circumstances. Lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, telephone, copy/print machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
