Swim Instructor for Low Sensory Hours
5 Cities Swim School, Arroyo Grande
Job Summary: We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate instructor who can provide personalized, 1-on-1 swim lessons during our dedicated low sensory hours, focusing on water safety and individual development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide low sensory swim lessons specifically designed for children with autism, special needs, and developmental differences.
- Prioritize water safety in every lesson, teaching essential skills such as floating, treading water, safe entry and exit from the pool, and responding to emergency situations (if and when appropriate).
- Work closely with families to understand each child's specific needs, goals, and sensory preferences, ensuring that water safety is a top priority in all activities.
- Use positive reinforcement and adaptive techniques to encourage skill development and enjoyment.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children with autism, special needs, or developmental challenges is highly preferred.
- No requirement for swim lesson experience. We will train on our curriculum and water safety focus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with children and families.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine enthusiasm for helping children succeed.
Compensation and Shift:
- Pay starts at $24 per hour, with opportunities for increases based on experience and performance.
- Low Sensory Hours are held on Sunday afternoons from 1pm-4pm.
- Shifts are a total of 3 hours 20 minutes per week.
- Because instructor/child trust is a core part of our Low Sensory Program, the ability to reliably attend your shift and build trust with your students is very important.
- Availability to teach during other shifts during the week is available and encouraged, but will not be a deciding factor in hiring.
Additional Requirements:
- Background check clearance.
- Willingness to undergo additional training in low sensory and adaptive swim instruction.
