Welding Program Manager

Talen Energy is soliciting candidates interested in filling the position of Welding Program Manager at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station located near Berwick, Pennsylvania. Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, one of the largest dual-unit, Boiling Water Reactor sites in the U.S., delivers approximately 2700 MW of electricity to the grid in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Welding Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring that responsible for ensuring that all welding, brazing and post-weld heat treatment performed by Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance or their designees, including contractors, is accomplished in accordance with the requirements of the Nuclear Department Welding Program. Primary Responsibilities Preparing, reviewing, and approving Weld Records and ASME Section XI Code Repair Plans for modification and maintenance work. Revising, and reviewing welding and ASME program procedures to incorporate improvement initiatives and to ensure compliance with company specifications, applicable Codes and regulatory requirements/commitments. Accepting and managing welder qualifications in accordance with ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and company specifications Providing support for outages, emergent issues and generation challenges which may require shift work/off hours. Participation in the Emergency Response Organization, in which the successful candidate will be assigned a specific duty. Administer Welder Qualification Tests (Qual EG981) Performance Qualification Tracking Responsible for maintaining a Welder Certification Process Use Status Report Set-up new welders in CodeMan (stamp and training) Run welder expiration report on a routine basis. Provide continuity process use testing for maintenance and contract welders. Teach welder’s technique for nuclear code requirements. Teach welder skills manual to new Talen welders and welders that need their skills refined. Yearly write and administer MM200 (maintenance welding issues OE refresher) to all Talen welders pre-outage. Teach WLD010 (Creating weld docs) (all pre-outage contract welders) Teach WLD040 (Weld doc filler metal issue using ASIS for Welders) (all pre-outage contract welders) Teach filler metal attendant and control/inventory class. Coordinate to supply shop with test coupons, filler metal, weld machines, weld machine parts, gas to code and program requirements Teach planner’s code repair form creation training; administer maintenance’s code repair form task qualification Approve weld travelers and code repair forms CodeMan ASIS (filler metal vending machine) password updates, ASIS computer troubleshooting, ASIS maintenance of doors and relays Responsible for development, maintenance and application of the welder Skills Training Manuals and supervising welder skills training. Responsible for providing technical direction and assistance for welding and related activities. EG977 – Prepare Weld Documents EG980 – Review Weld Docs Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent in related engineering discipline (welding, mechanical, nuclear or metallurgical) or equivalent work experience Individual must meet nuclear requirements for Unescorted Plant Access.
