The Position POSITION SUMMARY Roche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics (SBX Nanopore Sequencing) in 2020 for its novel Sequencing by eXpansion (SBX™) technology. SBX™ uses unique applications from chemistry, biochemistry, and protein engineering to sequence DNA by nanopore in rapid time with high accuracy and low cost. You will join the Chemistry team and assist in the Research and Development operations of the company. You will report directly to the team manager on fast-paced and highly evolving projects. The Chemistry team plays an interdisciplinary role and works collaboratively with different teams across the organization. Members are passionate and dedicated to our SBX™ technology and the impact high throughput, low-cost DNA sequencing will have on patient outcomes. We are looking for individuals with a strong background in science who are able to motivated, highly organized with a propensity for scientific growth to join our team. RESPONSIBILITIES ● Record and organize lab notebooks with attention to details. ● Assist in experiments. Help organize projects to support the team manager. ● Order and track laboratory supplies. ● Maintain and repair equipment. ● Solution preparation following approved company SOPs. ● Present work progress and report to the manager on a weekly basis. ● Quickly and effectively interpret directions into appropriate and efficient actions. ● Develop and propose improved experiment and process to fulfill the above functions. ● Maintain the lab’s cleanliness and organization. ● Other duties as assigned. ● Adhere to Roche Diagnostic Seattle’s policies and support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES ● Strong background in chemistry, biochemistry and protein engineering. ● Fast learner with an aptitude to work on complex projects. ● Excellent note-keeping abilities. ● Excellent verbal and written communication skills. ● Solid computer skills. Experience with Excel preferred. ● Very good organization skills and attention to detail. ● Strong analytical ability. ● A keen ability to listen to directions and execute them accurately. ● Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all organization levels. ● Ability to work safely and professionally with or on Roche Diagnostic Seattle's property. ● Bachelor’s degree focused in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering field preferred. ● Previous laboratory or research experience preferred.
