Technical Support Administrator

DESCRIPTION
The Technical Support Administrator’s role is to ensure the stability and reliability of the end-user’s desktop environment. This is accomplished by having a solid knowledge of the credit union’s computing environment, including servers, network devices, and PCs, so end users can accomplish business tasks. The position requires a firm grasp of current technologies and an understanding of how to deploy these technologies. The position is a hands-on technical role that directly interfaces with the credit union’s using community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning:
  • Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems.
  • Review and analyze existing systems to determine future growth and capacity needs.
  • Actively participate in department and organizational planning event, which include disaster recovery planning, capacity planning, and other strategic functions.
  • Work with I.T. management in the development of the strategic direction for all of I.T.
Acquisition and Deployment
  • Research, design, propose, and purchase hardware and software systems that meet the needs of the using community.
Operational Management:
  • Apply analytical skills and diagnostic utilities to problems and issues.
  • Provide technical support to all SSCU employees, on-site and remote, with respect to desktop computing problems, network diagnostics, printer and other peripheral problems, Microsoft Office, and other technology issues.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and diagnostics, and develop solutions that meet the end-user’s needs yet remain cost-effective.
  • Record, track, and document technical support requests using the ticketing system.
  • Support appropriate software and hardware used by the credit union.
  • Leverage the Internet to access, download, or update software systems/patches, drivers, knowledge bases, and frequently asked questions to aid in problem resolution.
  • Install anti-virus software, execute patch management procedures, and help develop & test disaster recovery procedures.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of workstations, printers, and peripherals.
  • Employ testing techniques to verify that solutions are functioning as designed.
  • Perform post-resolution follow-ups to ticketed requests.
  • Perform software administration functions. Activities to include:
    • Monitor PCs, servers, and other systems for performance and efficiency.
    • Update documentation regarding I.T. assets, configurations, processes and procedures, and diagrams.
    • Track end-user access and usage patterns as defined by I.T. management.
  • On-call rotation. This includes being available during non-working hours and on weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Education
Associate’s degree in I.T. Technical Support, Help Desk Support, or other related field. Trade school or relevant experience
Bachelor’s degree in I.T. Technical Support, I.T. Help Desk Support or other related field preferred.
Other: Certification are a plus.
Prerequisite Experience:
  • Knowledge of computer hardware.
  • Experience with desktop and server operating systems.
  • Application support experience with Microsoft Office products, Adobe, Internet Explorer, and other mainstream desktop applications.
  • Knowledge of programming languages is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities for troubleshooting PCs and laptops.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.

  • Must be able to work non-standard hours, on occasion.
  • Must be a self-starter and responsible as a guardian of the Credit Union’s computer hardware/software, computer information and programs and other computer related security.
