SUMMARY The Software Test Engineer provides identification/fixing of problems within existing software, design/implementation of new systems and enhancement of existing applications. This position participates in analysis, design and new instruction of next generation IT applications. The Software Test Engineer is responsible for understanding the needs of the customers and the realities of commercially available IT products and creating requirements that will allow implementation by the development team and COTS products. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Designs, develops, tests and evaluates software and systems that enable computers to perform their applications, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering and mathematical analysis. Develops software system testing procedures, programming and documentation. Responsible for back-end, front-end, regression, integration, boundary, load and system testing of complex technology systems using both exploratory testing methods and automated scripts. Use of Oracle PL/SQL scripts may be required. Responsible for reading requirements and design documents, developing test cases, supporting materials, executing tests based on these materials, and reporting results. Thoroughly tests and regression tests software applications under both maintenance and new development projects. Writes test plans and scripts for tracking requirements and defects. Writes automated testing scripts using WinRunner or other automated tools. Participates in the Internal Change Control Board meetings, test strategy sessions, and peer reviews of test cases. Works directly with analysts and developers to investigate software defects and accurately and clearly reports those defects. Logs, tracks and verifies resolution of software and specification defects. Provides test results to test manager and project leads. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company. Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize output. Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent education and nine (9) years of relevant experience. CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION Driver’s License Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES Outstanding communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
