Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting functions of multiple companies bringing a high level of expertise and experience. This position will report directly to the Controller and CFO and will manage and supervise all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance. Participation in all levels of operations is required, but not limited to, the following: accounts payable and receivable management, payroll and employee file management, insurance management, required government fillings and financial analysis and that all functions are timely completed, and records are maintained at the highest standard.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Our Corporate Assistant Controller will work with our Controller and CFO to implement strategic initiatives
  • Manage all aspects of accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable etc.
  • Maintain documented system of accounting policies, procedures and processes
  • Complying with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting
  • Define, benchmark and implement operational best practices
  • Organize information and statements for audits for both internal and external auditors

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field
  • Ideal candidate has 3-5 years of experience in field
  • Previous experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or manager
  • Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software/QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel or other system knowledge
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementation
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advance knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members

Daily Monthly and Annual Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Entire Scope of Bookkeeping – A/P, A/R, etc.
  • Credit Card Entry
  • Payroll processing
  • Maintenance of employee files
  • Sales Tax Return Fillings
  • Sales Tax Return Fillings
  • Research of: Bookkeeping Issues, Relevant tax issues
  • Property management files maintained
  • Insurance management – updates and maintenance
  • Monthly Billing
  • Assist with month end close of books – entries, documentation, reconciliation
  • Lease agreement management
  • Tracking and update of equipment
  • Fleet Management
  • Annual Filings – 1099s etc.
  • Intercompany note management
  • Development, implementation, review and updating of relevant processes and procedures
  • As needed clerical responsibilities to assist the overall team
  • County Business Personal property renditions
  • Continuing education relevant to job roles/duties
  • Special projects as requested by the CFO and Controller

Education

Bachelors - preferred but not required commensurate on experience

Experience

Accounting – 3 to 5 years preferably with experience in public accounting

QuickBooks – 5 years’ experience required

Microsoft Excel – 5 years’ experience required
