SUMMARY:
We are a community of data scientists that work to improve the shopping experiences of our customers, both in-store and online. We leverage large volumes of data to develop powerful sciences using cutting edge machine learning, natural language processing, and mathematical techniques to improve products, processes, and systems that positively impact our customers. We lead our organization in identifying and adopting the tools and technologies that will continue to position our company as the recognized analytical leader within our industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with data science and team leads to develop immediate and long-term capability roadmaps for the assortment and space team
- Oversee methodology development and solution design on large-scale initiatives
- Manage a team of 5-6 data scientists across varying specialties in delivering team objectives and work plans
- Identify opportunities for data science innovation and research within the team through exploration of new technologies, methodologies, and approaches
- Co-lead innovation/POC initiatives, including technical evaluation, science reviews, and go/no go decisions on methodologies, sciences, and solutions
- Develop and maintain connection with stakeholders both at Kroger and 84.51°ensuring business questions are addressed through proper application of statistical and machine learning techniques
- Leverage foundational components and packages developed by Enterprise Capabilities as relevant
- Deliver advanced customer insights to both technical and non-technical audiences using visualization tools
- Adhere to stringent quality assurance and documentation standards and best practices as defined by How To Data Science (e.g., git, markdown, Jupyter)
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with retail merchandising data preferred
- 6 years developing analytical solutions using advanced statistical methods and machine learning algorithms
- 6 years querying data from relational databases using SQL
- 6 years using R or Python to develop analytical solutions
- 6 years with data wrangling, data cleaning and prep, dimensionality reduction
- Experience with managing, recruiting, training, developing, coaching, and/or inspiring highly technical associates
- Ability to create computationally efficient solutions
- Strong academic background in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, or similar discipline
- Data visualization skills and ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong analytical, creative problem-solving and decision making skills
- Strong business acumen; grocery and/or retail experience is a plus
