We support remote work and the positive impact it can have on team members’ productivity and well-being. Summary. We are engaging in a search for an individual to fill the Paralegal position. The role will directly support the Corporate Risk Management and insurance procurement functions for the enterprise, the employment law practice area, and will assist in the Legal Department’s operations generally. The Paralegal will be responsible to attend meetings, depositions and trials within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan area as well as to Methodist Health’s owned and/or operated facilities. The Paralegal will be expected to have at least two years of paralegal experience working in litigation or a healthcare setting. In-depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles required, knowledge of medical terminology preferred with a strong desire to expand their knowledge base to positively contribute to a strong cohesive group. The Paralegal will be required to use their Microsoft Office skills, WestLaw, Claims Management Systems, expense/billing and contract management systems to elevate the level of service the Legal Department provides to the enterprise. Employment law experience in a healthcare setting is preferred along with a strong desire to acquire new knowledge in insurance procurement. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required to support the department’s mission and goals along with being detail oriented, logical, and an ability to methodically approach problem solving. The Paralegal will work under the direction and supervision of the AVP Corporate Risk Management. Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. Researches law, investigates facts, and independently prepares documents to assist internal and external attorneys and Legal Department team members with claim matters, discovery responses, subpoenas management, etc. Assists with preparing and completing multiple property and casualty insurance applications, keeping and maintaining insurance records along with fulfilling various Corporate Risk and insurance functions and responsibilities. Organizes and indexes complex case files and insurance renewal applications using claim/insurance management systems. Independently performs wide variety of legal, insurance, healthcare research and data extraction from various sources. Prepares reports, correspondence, chronologies, and case summaries for analysis by various internal stakeholders. Communicates with insurance adjusters, witnesses, experts, and external defense counsel in preparation for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials. Reviews expense and billing data from external law firms for accuracy and maintains information in claims management system. Maintains calendar deadlines to assist in the management of claims, insurance renewals, and carrier notifications and contributes to resolutions of claims. Reviews physician invoices and ensures billing is in compliance with physicians’ contracts. Leads and maintains all aspects of the Riskonnect claims application. This includes preparing reports as needed. Minimum Job Qualifications: Paralegal Degree from accredited college or university and/or paralegal training/experience strongly preferred via one of the following: Graduate of an American Bar Association (ABA)-approved paralegal studies program Graduate of a non-ABA-approved paralegal studies program at an accredited institution Bachelor's degree in any subject plus two years of attorney-supervised paralegal work and 15 hours of continuing legal education each year Methodist Health System is a highly revered, leading nonprofit healthcare organization in Dallas, Texas.
