A Better Way, Inc. offers a comprehensive approach to services for children and families. Our mission is to empower children and families to develop insights, life skills, and permanent relationships that promote their social, emotional, educational, and economic wellbeing. Our programs include therapeutic services, foster care, adoption, and parent advocacy. We are currently seeking a Childcare Provider to join our team.

Role:

We are seeking a professional and dedicated Child Care provider for our Parent Education Program.  Applicants must be highly motivated, dependable, energetic, responsible and empathetic to children's feelings. They must also be able to work well with others and have good communication skills.   Applicants will have to pass a Fingerprint background check. Pay depends on experience and qualifications. Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise and monitor the safety of children in your care
• Prepare meals and organize mealtimes and snacks for children
• Instruct children in good hygiene
• Organize activities and implement a curriculum that allow children to learn about the world and explore their interests
• Develop schedules and routines to ensure that children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime
• Watch for signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring the problems to the attention of parents and your supervisor
• Keep records of children’s progress, routines, and interests
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• A strong understanding of child development and developmental needs of children
• Requires High School Diploma
• Must have valid California driver’s license and a mode of transportation
• Knowledge of computers and software programs
• Excellent interpersonal skills which include communication, listening skills approachability, and attitude
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Represents A Better Way, Inc. in a positive and professional manner during telephone/written communication and in-person contact with clients, care-givers, and staff
• Requires sensitivity in communication with children, as well as sensitivity to their issues (foster children in particular). Patience and tolerance required.
• Privacy and confidentiality need to be practiced due to the nature of the business the organization conducts with regard to foster children
• We will train the right applicant

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prefer an applicant who has obtained a degree in Early Childhood Education or someone who is working towards a degree in this field
• Spanish fluency highly desired
• Intermediate use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (Both A Better Way’s and the County’s) preferred but not required

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position with a wide availability of hours, times and days. An applicant with a flexible schedule is highly desirable. (Hours are subject to change to meet business needs). We are looking for applicants who have open availability. We are looking to fill 3 hour shifts available Monday- Saturday from 10am-8pm, across locations in Berkeley, Fruitvale and Hayward.

Travel

Local travel to various worksites is required.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Employees must pass a background check and receive TB and health clearances prior to employment.
