Duties

Purpose: The Data Management Specialist manages the district student information systems and assures that state reporting functions are implemented consistently. Maintains student data with integrity and accuracy in the following areas: attendance, grading, test scores, EL data, student fees, bus transportation, scheduling, ISBE data submissions, state & federal reporting, online registration, and importing and exporting of student data. Maintains the functionality and interoperability between various district database resources and works collaboratively with the District technology department.


Performance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain student database system (Skyward) calendar and terms; setup new school year and annual rollover
  • Deep understanding of student attendance, registration, course scheduling, and other core campus processes in regards to Skyward functionality
  • Manage security and access rights for Skyward and related software
  • Provides guidance and technical support for Skyward system end users
  • Oversees and manages the ISBE SIS (Student Information System), and other comprehensive data management systems within the learning organization including all required reports and uploads
  • Provides assistance to district and school personnel in navigation of SIS system for reporting purposes
  • Maintains and updates the state information file for testing and reporting for district schools
  • Attends necessary ISBE SIS and ISBE Assessment workshops and/or webinars to ensure accurate maintenance of district and school databases
  • Coordinates with building administration to ensure accuracy of student records for state mandated testing
  • Coordinates with Technology Department and assists building administration in the delivery of all state assessments
  • Provide regular data analysis to administration, department heads, counselors, and staff.
  • Facilitate district information exports to other databases used in the district
  • Coordinates the data operability between student and staff records for all applications, programs, and software including learning management, data warehousing, library management, and assessment software, etc.
  • Manages and oversees all website filtering, and responds to requests from staff
  • Works collaboratively, as needed, with the District Technology Department in terms of management of work orders, organization, etc.
  • Develops expert competencies on district data systems
  • Provides timely recommendations on system upgrades, as well as technical support for the functionality of data systems
  • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Provides training and on-going support for consistent application of student information and record management systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience and/or training
  • Proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software to conduct advanced searches, queries, and relational database operations
  • Preferred experience with Skyward and ISBE Student Information System
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to be organized, detailed, and to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and administrators

Salary/Benefits

Terms of Employment:

Twelve-month year salary to be established by the Board of Education. Salary range is $47,500-$52,500.


Evaluation:

The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and/or Assistant Superintendent of Innovation and Information will serve as the supervisor and will provide feedback regarding performance.
