About the RoleWe are looking for a qualified Building Envelope Consultant with a passion for helping people with their leaking or damaged buildings, who also possesses strong technical construction related skills, and will thrive in a collaborative, team environment. This position is also known as a BE Technologist.
Levels we are looking for, based on experience:
Building Envelope Consultant, PM2 – Manages small projects with minimal supervision. Assists in coordinating project activities, such as scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. Liaises with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure project requirements are met. Contributes to project reports, progress updates, and presentations.
Building Envelope Consultant, PM3 – Manages multiple projects simultaneously, from initiation to completion. Develops and maintains project schedules, budgets, and resource plans. Leads project teams to achieve deliverables on time and within budget. Acts as the primary point of contact for clients, managing expectations and addressing concerns.
What you'll doAs a Building Envelope Consultant, you’ll be responsible for supporting or running the following tasks:
- Conducting building investigations to determine the cause and origin of failures, damage, and defects due to a wide range of construction related issues, age, or maintenance.
- Conducting field observations and data collection for work in progress, which means conducting invasive inspections or observing contractors repairing projects.
- Performing evaluations and review of construction documents to determine code conformance.
- Organizing field data to facilitate analysis, report writing, and scope of repair development.
- Documenting work in accordance with applicable J2 processes, tools, and reference documents with peer review by manager when required.
- Reviewing data, information, and design documents to investigate the standards of care pertaining to various parties involved during construction.
- Preparing clear and concise technical reports detailing observations made, test conducted, and conclusions formed.
- Regularly and directly communicating with a variety of clients and managing concurrent projects with varying sizes, scopes, client types, and durations.
- Scheduling and implementation of project management tasks and deadlines.
- Independently managing time and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Contributing to company-wide objectives.
- Work in the office and in the field.
- Construction/building envelope/or engineering industry experience is preferred but not required; PM2, 2 years’ experience required; PM3, 3-5 years’ experience required.
- Experience in building envelope systems, roofing systems, and waterproofing systems, particularly at the interface of different building enclosure systems, assemblies, or components.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and effectively prioritize.
- The ability to communicate and work constructively with diverse technical specialists and trades people.
- Comfort with one-on-one client interactions and speaking to small audiences (virtual & in-person).
- Desire to continually develop and refine technical knowledge through targeted continuing education.
- Working skills in Microsoft 365 suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to attend meetings at various offices, field, and construction sites.
- Willingness and ability to perform observation and evaluation tasks in elevated and exposed conditions.
- Willingness and ability to perform observation and evaluation tasks in narrow, shallow, or confined conditions.
- Ability to sit for extended periods as required to perform design, reporting, and other analysis duties.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle.
