Job Title: IMPACT Program Coordinator (IPC)

Department: Teen & Young Adult Services

Reports to: IMPACT Program Manager

FLSA Status/Hours: Non-exempt

Hours: 40 hours per week, Must be available to work Saturdays


A Place Called Home (APCH) is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the IMPACT Sr. Program Manager, the IMPACT Program Coordinator (IPC) serves as the liaison for APCH members with the highest needs and assists with their integration into APCH programs and services. This includes members recruited explicitly for the IMPACT program from outside organizations and RISE students. The IPC monitors member behavior to identify, prevent or de-escalate injurious and destructive behavior in the classroom and on campus and to provide behavior intervention and socio-emotional support in the most severe behavior circumstances. The IPC assists in creating and implementing behavior support plans and works with the IMPACT Case Worker and Counseling team and all staff to implement and monitor the progress of intervention plans per A Place Called Home’s REACH values. The IMPACT Program Coordinator works with RISE Student Support Services staff to ensure students’ success, well-being, and access to programs and services while on campus. The IPC also coordinates weekly on-campus and virtual programming logistics, scheduling Independent Contractors, communicating with parents/guardians, and coordinating HSD or public transportation for members.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Identify and manage caseload of IMPACT Opportunity Youth population
  • Support IMPACT Case Manager to create Member Intervention Plans (MIPs) and Goal Setting worksheets and provide follow-up support to ensure they are carried out as designed
  • Track individual member goals and document case notes for each interaction with members.
  • Monitor members to detect unusual or harmful behavior and report potential escalation of behavior to the Counseling Team as needed.
  • In collaboration with the IMPACT Sr. Program Manager, create and maintain a safe, inclusive, environment in which all members are enabled to reach their fullest potential, meet their goals and create positive peer relationships.
  • Prevent and de-escalate harmful behavior in crisis situations to reduce members’ risk of injury and ensure safety of others, using Nonviolent Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) strategies
  • In most severe circumstances, where member behavior presents immediate safety concerns, provide physical restraint (learned via appropriate training) as means of removing member from the situation and de-escalation
  • Collaborate with IMPACT Case Manager and Counseling Team and appropriate staff to assist in the development, implementation, and modification of behavioral intervention and support plans
  • Monitor and ensure members remain in designated locations on agency campus
  • Circulate throughout campus including instructional spaces and general areas to serve as a consistent and supportive presence to members throughout program hours
  • Provide mediation in conflict situations between members and staff (if necessary) to prevent behavioral crisis
  • Document members’ behavioral progress and share progress with IMPACT Case Manager Counseling Team and respective staff during Case Conference
  • Provide guidance and support to IC’s and volunteers on best practices in interacting with opportunity youth.
  • Understand and abide by California’s Mandated Reporting Law as issued by the California Department of Education.
  • Schedule weekly rides for members in need of transportation to attend IMPACT programming
  • Connect members to other APCH staff as needed; Higher Education, PREP, be present for meetings with members and said departments.
  • Coordinate weekly class logistics and semester scheduling
  • Plan for classes, workshops and other events throughout the semester.
  • Submit purchase orders for food, gift cards, hoodies and other supplies and materials.
  • Act as liaison between RISE students and APCH programming and services by building rapport with both students and staff to create a streamline of RISE students into IMPACT programming
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative data and submit monthly and quarterly grant reports


Other Responsibilities

  • Create and submit paperwork and monthly reports in a timely fashion
  • Attend all required meetings (Staff, Supervisor, etc.)
  • Support other team members in carrying out center protocols, rules, and policies
  • Administrative duties as assigned (including filing, writing case studies, tracking behavior patterns, maintaining case notes)
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Education/Training/Experience

  • 3 years experience in providing behavioral intervention or behavior management services to moderate to severe emotionally-disturbed individuals
  • Associate's degree or equivalent of 60 semester or 90 quarter units in psychology, mental health, social work, behavior management, special education, or a field closely related to the knowledge and abilities of this classification, from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Certification in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI)
  • Equivalency Provision: Certificate in a psychiatric technician or other similar mental health program from an institute of higher learning recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation may substitute for one year of the required experience
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) required.


Physical and Mental Demands

APCH COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

All new hires must provide proof of their first dose of the vaccine on the first day of employment, if not fully vaccinated, and will have 30 days from their date of hire to complete their COVID-19 vaccination and submit proof of completion to the organization’s HR department. All fully vaccinated staff must also provide proof of their booster vaccine once eligible.
