Assistant Controller
Position Description:
The Assistant Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for assisting with the management of the daily, monthly and annual financial operations of the business. You will work closely with the CFO to learn all aspects of the accounting system and accounting cycle for the organization.
Daily/Monthly Responsibilities:
- Daily reconciliation of cash receipts from all departments to our Point of Sale system. Prepare bank transfers as needed.
- Reconcile and import daily ledgers from the Point of Sale system into the General Ledger in Sage 100.
- Prepare the monthly reconciliation and posting of transactions for our Purchasing Card program.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations for the various bank accounts for the Easton office.
- Add or dispose of fixed assets in FAS, print reports for the CFO for posting into the General Ledger.
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial statements that are given to our Board of Directors. Review and reconcile general ledger accounts as directed by the CFO. Prepare journal entries for positing into Sage 100. Assist the CFO with the preparation of monthly Board report packages.
- Assist with compliance audits of cash drawers and compliance with PATRIOT and Bank Secrecy Acts as needed. The company sells foreign currency and VISA gift and travel cards and is required to comply with all Federal and State laws as they pertain to nonbank financial institutions.
- You will be back-up to the CFO and will manage the accounting department when the CFO is out of the office.
Yearly Responsibilities:
- Prepare vendor list for our auditors to prepare the company’s 1099s.
- Prepare the filing of the Unclaimed Property Report with the PA Treasury Department.
- Supervise the annual year-end physical inventory of our retail store.
- Prepare spreadsheets and detail reconciliations of balance sheet accounts for our annual audit in February.
- Assist the CFO with the annual budget for three locations
- Work on special projects as needed.
Experience/Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
- Three years of experience in Public Accounting or 5 years of experience with increasing responsibilities in industry. Retail or Not-For-Profit experience is preferred.
- Experience with Sage 100 and FAS. Experience with budgeting software is a plus.
- Excellent Excel spreadsheet skills. Proficient in other Office products.
