What are the responsibilities and job description for the SQL DBA position at AAA Texas, AAA Careers?
As a Database Administrator (DBA) in the Tools and Technology team, you will act as a consultant to our business groups and management in regard to the administration of the company databases.
What You’ll Do
Every day, you will attend a stand-up meeting with your peers to discuss project task statuses and ask for feedback so we can deliver solutions on time.
You will administer and maintain the SQL Servers, MySQL databases, and related relational databases components. Acting as a mentor is an important part of the role. You will spend time providing technical training and consultation to junior members of the IT organization.
You participate with other IT professionals to evaluate new technologies in the market and recommend cohesive direction for the IT organization. You also ask questions and use your past work experience to offer suggestions for improvements and new approaches to solving problems.
You will review and implement database-related component changes in our defined change window.
Participation in the automation of deployments in a CI/CD pipeline.
You will need to be flexible for participation in the rotational on-call schedule to resolve production system problems.
You will also participate with other IT professionals to evaluate new technologies in the market and recommend a cohesive direction for the IT organization.
What You’ll Need
To thrive in this role, you must have experience working in a position where you had to ask questions to understand business needs and work collaboratively with your team.
You were not an order-taker but a true collaborator in designing and delivering the solution.
You should bring a deep knowledge of SQL 2014/2016/2019 Database Administration/T-SQL High-availability technologies such as Windows Clustering and SQL Always-On in large-scale environments. In addition, you should have thorough experience with composing and implementing SSIS packages and advanced PowerShell Scripting skills.
You will need to be able to detect and optimize slow-performing SQL.
You will need a solid ability to express complex technical concepts in terms less technical people can understand in order to make presentations to non-technical upper management.
You are willing to ask why and push back to get to the right answer, not just the easiest one. You should feel comfortable admitting when you are behind or did something wrong, not only because you understand and care about customer impact but because you care about our team, too.
Be willing to provide mentorship and offer advice to junior team members so they can develop their skills.
You have worked previously with an Agile/SCRUM team or understand these concepts. You expect to participate in daily standup meetings, you’ll complete your projects or stories during our sprints, and you’re ready to meet frequent deployment deadlines.
Note: The position will be a remote opportunity, but you must live within 100 miles of our Coppell, TX, location or be willing to move within the area.
