Enrollment Management Intern:
Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Director of Enrollment Management Systems & Data, this position will serve as a highly impactful opportunity to gain real-world experience in data analysis and predictive modeling within a higher education context. This internship will provide the candidate with direct responsibility for conducting data analysis that will be used for strategic decision making within the division of Enrollment Management.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with anonymized reports queried from the College’s enrollment information systems to gain practical experience cleaning, interpreting, and analyzing record-level data.
- Develop and test hypotheses related to student behavior during the admissions process.
- Identify correlations between categorical data fields that help enhance the undergraduate admissions departments understanding of the data-grounded realities of the admissions and recruitment process.
- Communicate the insights discovered to admissions leadership at the College, discuss the current and future implications of these insights, and develop practical data-driven recommendations for process improvement.
- Apply industry standard practices for data collection to extract data from a variety of third-party sources. This position involves web scraping of publicly available data sources such as Common Data Set, the National Center for Education Statistics, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, National Student Clearinghouse, College Scorecard, and Data USA.
- Develop multivariate regression models to uncover hidden insights within admissions information and apply these models within a predictive context.
- Test and refine models based on observed outcomes and document opportunities for future correlation analysis and/or data collection efforts.
- Assist in the design, management, and implementation of a campus-wide data warehouse which has the capability to meet both standard and ad-hoc data reporting requirements for all campus constituencies.
Qualifications:
- Must be a junior or senior at the September start date.
- Strong public speaking skills, maturity, and strong listening & communication skills.
- A genuine interest in data analysis and predictive modeling within higher education and a strong desire to help Babson College improve its operational efficiency in admissions.
- Comfort presenting to groups ranging in size from small to large groups.
- A collaborative personality, willingness to ask questions, and desire to seek answers.
- Be committed to work 10 hours per week between both in-person and virtual hours.
