What are the responsibilities and job description for the Moldmaker position at Abacus Search Staffing?
Our client is a very well established manufacturer of plastic automotive components, and they have an immediate need for a second shift moldmaker, with the following experience.
The primary function of this position will be to perform repairs, modifications and preventive maintenance on molding tools in a plastic molding injection environment as instructed by the Tooling Manager.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required.
üShall adhere to all safety, health and environmental procedures, policies and practices such as; utilizing personal protective equipment and proper attire in keeping with safety standards.
üComply with all QMS / EMS / ISO procedures and work instructions as it pertains to the position description.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
1.Perform complete tear down of molds clean, inspect, part replacement, grease and reassemble.
2.Flash repair - welding parting lines and spotting of some simpler tool areas.
3.Maintain manifolds, hot runners, and valve gates : replace worn out valve pins, tips, heaters, and rewiring.
4.Responsible for maintaining set-up of machinery and assisting with machining and making of details requiring the use of a mill, boring mill, lathe, and surface grinders.
5.Perform press calls - inspect and diagnose tool problems at the press and be able to correct the issue or make the decision to pull the tool for additional work in the tool room.
6.Make repairs to tools using pneumatic tools such as pencil, straight, and right angle grinders.
7.Maintain parts inventory for common replacement items such as; springs, ejector pins, sleeves, etc.
8.Diagnose pneumatic and hydraulic problems with little assistance or guidance.
9.Assist with the timing of lifters, manifolds and other tool details that require precise fitting.
10.Responsible for maintaining and operating machinery equipment such as; lathe mill, surface grinder, etc.
11.Responsible for maintaining daily log book and Tooling request forms.
12.Responsible for logging receipts of, or shipment of, mold tooling on the Mold Tool Status shared file.
13.Understanding and participating in all aspects of the continuous improvement process.
14.Performs all other functions as required; included are any work assignments relating to the efficient flow of work within JAC Products Inc.
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES :

Ability to use various types of tools and equipment necessary (manual, electric, pneumatic, etc.)
Mechanical ability; advanced maintenance tools and techniques, affected and / or authorized Lock Out / Tag Out process knowledge
The ability to properly document work performed.
Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other tools as needed.
PREFERRED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :
Note : Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required for all new hires in all positions.
Vocational certificate, associate degree in a technical field, job-related apprenticeship experience, or 6 years of equivalent job-related experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of 3 years working experience in tooling.
