This role will initially be on-site only in 1 of 2 locations: Athens, GA or Fort Smith, AR.
You will be creating and executing designs for engineering solutions as part of the team in Motion NEMA Motors. This includes drawings, calculations, bill of materials, engineering instructions and processes.
In this role, you will be responsible for electric motor design engineer for a complete range of NEMA motors, design and specification of windings and electrical components, complete drawings and manufacturing bill of material, complete testing to demonstrate conformity with regulatory and application requirements, applying engineering principles and judgment in the motor design process, engaging in initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the product development and R&D(Research and Development) engineering function. You will be designing motors which are successful in unique applications and meet customer expectations.
Your responsibilities
- Use computer software and corporate design programs to develop quality Motor designs and performance data for new custom orders. Perform the required calculations to assure new designs meet customer requirements and ABB motors
- safety and design parameters
- Develop winding designs that meet customer order specifications and industry standards. Create new drawings or modify existing drawings as needed. Complete and release accurate bill of material specification
- Work with R&D engineering when needed to develop new motor products and technology. The ability to flex and perform effectively across the product development and R&D teams is essential
- Evaluate test data and motor performance against customer requirements. Issue test reports when required
- Analyze the effects of design changes on motor performance. Initiate technical data release when permitted changes are made to existing designs, drawings, customer data and software
- Support product management, sales management and the advanced technical solutions team to meet business goals, including cost reduction goals
- Evaluate and authorize component part and material substitutions within specified parameters. Occasionally support the QA(Quality Assurance) function. Authorize repair procedures as appropriate for the design
- Maintain electrical design and test databases
- Understand and execute all regulatory and agency approval requirements. Design and specify orders incorporating these requirements such that all safety and regulatory requirements and industry standards are fulfilled
- Complete all training concerning corporate design, safety and engineering standards
- Maintain highest ethical standards. Contribute as a professional to improving the performance of NEMA product development engineering
Your background
- Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent degree) with minimum 0 to 5 years of experience
- Proficient with MS Office
- Experience with SAP preferred
- Ability to function in an environment with timelines related to customer commitments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong mathematics skill
- Professional and courteous interpersonal skills
- Infrequent travel
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $61,900 and $115,100 annually.
