In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the management in the overall Safety function for the plant and for ensuring compliance with applicable government regulations and company policies in Motion NEMA Motors. In partnership with managers and employees, the Safety Specialist is also responsible for ensuring a safe work environment and that people work safely

This position reports to

HSE Manager

Your responsibilities

  • Promotes, educates, and supports facility health and safety goals and objectives.
  • Assure the appropriate, effective and timely facilitation of all required safety training and orientation programs for the facility.
  • Conduct work-site analysis and safety audits to identify hazards and deviations from acceptable practices of requirements. Oversees the Safety corrective action process
  • Collaborate with safety manager, engineers, technicians and managers to institute control and corrective measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions of equipment
  • Conduct facilitate the plant’s Safety Committee activities
  • Support continued management of the ABB safety program and ISO and OHSA programs.
  • Investigate and report near miss injuries and non-injuries to the Safety Manager. Analyzes physician’s reports and conducts worker studies, as applicable, to determine if diseases or illnesses are job related. Work closely with the company doctor, plant first responders and is responsible for maintaining first aid room and supplies.

Your background

  • High School Diploma/GED with minimum 4 years experience OR Associate Degree with minimum 2 years experience OR Bachelor's Degree with minimum 0-2 years
  • Preferred Experience Includes: Previous Health and Safety experience working in a manufacturing environment, EMT / Safety Certifications, SAP.
  • Strong knowledge in OSHA (U.S. Federal and applicable State). Must obtain and retain a first responder certification. Understanding of Workers’ Compensation and Return to Work Programs.
  • An understanding of electrical safety (including NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal briefs, technical data, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, doctors’ dissertations and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of employees comprised of various levels of personnel, from senior executives to facility personnel.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
