Overview
Lake County Utilities (LCU) is a 24/7 operations that provides centralized utilities (Chilled Water, Compressed Air, Electricity, Fire Main Protection Water, Fresh Water, Natural Gas, Purified Water, Steam/Condensate, Sanitary/Storm Sewers, Well Water, etc.) to the Abbott Park, Abbott Park East, and K-Complex sites. These sites are comprised of manufacturing, office, R&D, and warehousing facilities.
This position requires a degreed engineer capable of applying sound engineering principals to complete projects and complex assignments, in support of the LCU plant, equipment, and systems. As stated above, LCU supports multiple sites throughout Lake County, and upon request, provides support to Abbott sites globally.
Core Job Responsibilities
Lead/Support efforts involving/related to:
- Project development and execution (scoping, cost estimating, securing, and managing funding, designing, planning, scheduling, material/labor procurement, scope execution, commissioning, training, turnover, closeout, etc.)
- Equipment installations, piping/system upgrades, equipment shutdowns, major equipment repairs, etc.
- Define, develop, and execute energy/utilities consumption reduction projects.
- Capital Planning activities including but not limited to creating/revising equipment Long Range Planning (LRP) documentation.
- Direct internal and external personnel to perform engineering analyses, designs, studies, install/modify equipment, etc.
- LCU/Abbott equipment/process/system investigations and troubleshooting.
- Understanding and complying w/ all Abbott Engineering Standards, Specifications, etc.
- Leading cross-functional, cross-site teams to achieve project goals.
- Preparing and delivering verbal and written communications to management
Additional Job Responsibilities
Lead/Support efforts involving/related to:
- BEx programs (Root Cause Problem Solving certification, Continuous Improvement activities, etc.)
- Maintenance Excellence programs (Scheduling & Planning, Predictive Maintenance, Asset Care, etc.)
- Personnel development programs (PDPs, Seasonal interns, etc.).
- Travel (5 - 10%)
- Additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Must have /Ability to:
- B.S. in an Engineering discipline with 5 – 7 years work experience in project engineering and/or equivalent role
- Ability to manage multiple, concurrent activities, operating and performing well w/ limited supervision.
- Adapt to and maintains effectiveness when experiencing changing priorities, environment, processes, schedule, etc.
- Possesses a problem solving, investigative, innovative, critical thinking mindset, as well as a working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Exercises technical judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Executes the design of processes/equipment/systems by applying standard engineering theories, concepts, and techniques within the discipline.
- Comprehend and utilize complex manuals, drawings (P&IDs, electrical/pneumatic schematics, etc.) etc. related to the installation/modification/maintenance of equipment/systems.
- Investigates, conducts tests or experiments, gathers data, performs preliminary analysis, reports findings, prepares and communicates recommendations and respective action plans.
- Consistently leads by example in complex, multi-faceted, business environments as well as represent various levels of LCU/Abbott management when required.
- Listens to and understands others' points of view.
- Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
- Ability to thrive in team environment.
- Knowledgeable of various software applications, including but not limited Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Word, etc.), and Google applications (Earth, Search, etc.) etc.
- Project Engineer in utilities and/or plant environment preferred.
