Description


As a Class B Driver, you are essential to ensuring customer shipments are picked and dropped off to customers, ports, and airports on time and in good order. You will need to be flexible, willing to learn, and have the patience to fight through traffic. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting perishable and dangerous goods
  • Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure
  • Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
  • Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Read bills of lading to determine assignment details
  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage
  • Operate equipment, such as truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
  • Load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using special loading-related equipment (forklifts and pallet jacks) or other equipment as necessary
  • Follow special cargo-related procedures, such as checking refrigeration systems for frozen foods
  • Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions
  • Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information
  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs
  • Keep truck cab and trailer clean, sanitized, and free from debris, hazards, chemicals, or other non-conformance materials
  • Learn and maintain a thorough knowledge of procedures required by various products, airlines, and destinations 
  • Learn and maintain a thorough knowledge of cargo loading devices (ex. LD3, AKE, PMC, etc.)
  • Participate in any and all cross-training programs as assigned 
  • Report to your assigned shift on time each day you are scheduled to work
  • Assist in training and teaching new hires as needed
  • Report any Compliance issues to the Shift Manager in a timely manner 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Management Team

Requirements


  • Clean driving record and DMV K4 report
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification
  • Must pass all DOT screening/testing
  • Previous experience in air import and/or export
  • Comprehension of English (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under deadlines and pressure
  • Must be able to learn and adapt to new processes and procedures
  • Must be comfortable in a warehouse environment and around fast-moving equipment
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to reach above shoulder level, bend, sit, squat, stoop, crouch, reach, kneel, and twist/turn
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to pass a preemployment drug screening, physical, and background check

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in a refrigerated/cold climate warehouse

ADDITIONAL NOTES


This position will require employee to enter Able Freight warehouse spaces. You must abide by all safety and Compliance requirements and measures while in the warehouse.
