The Sr. Director of Operations, LAX, will be tasked with overall execution of Able’s fast paced and dynamic operations with primary activities in Los Angeles. You will need to be a seasoned leader who can partner with various teams to ensure growth is well managed. This role is expected to provide high impact leadership through a hands-on, detail oriented, and highly visible approach. Their leadership will translate directly to; efficiency, improved operating margins and the successful implementation of objectives in the near and long term. This position will be instrumental in removing barriers, solving problems, and executing a complex operating dynamic. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable senior leadership experience within a similar operating model, a proven track record of delivering on service requirements, collaborating with key business partners, be action oriented, possess the ability to handle multiple priorities and address present concerns while keeping an eye on future opportunities. A high energy professional is essential to success.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead LAX warehouse operations, compliance, purchasing, and maintenance departments including workforce management, automation, capacity optimization and procurement activities.
  • Formulate and execute operating plans that achieve the Company’s operating goals, KPIs, and other success factors, including full profit & loss (P&L) responsibility
  • Must continually visit and inspect operating sites to ensure that a safe, fully functional, and high yielding environment exists in perpetuity. Involvement in warehouse operations and implementation and execution of quality and efficiency metrics is required.
  • Create initiatives to transform Able’s already high-performing warehouse operation to a more efficient and more profitable operating machine.
  • Partner with Import and Export operations to ensure Able exceeds customer expectations in product handling.
  • Regularly assess the operating plan and identify key opportunities for improvement; work closely with the executive leadership team to anticipate and address potential strategic, tactical, and operating issues.
  • Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime and temporary labor.
  • Utilize data and analysis of KPI metrics to drive continual process improvement, customer success, and improved cost efficiencies.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop business cases for real estate and other capital investments and participate in decision making and successful project management. 
  • Provide leadership to the company, including mentoring and developing key senior management members and instilling best practices from an operational perspective.
  • Assess performance of leadership team and manage to achieve goals through effective conflict resolution, by promoting teamwork, and the use of performance management tools.
  • Team with corporate leadership and assist in design and rollout of technology improvements supporting operations and other areas of the company.
  • Provide regular performance updates to the senior leadership team.
  • Proudly represent Able at local, national, and international events as necessary.
  • All other work-related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Yield Management

  • Must demonstrate the highest level of ethical behavior and compliance capability while in the workplace and/or performing duties on behalf of Able Freight

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive operations leadership with 15 years overall in transportation or logistics, freight forwarding or high-volume warehouse exposure desired.
  • Warehouse operations experience is required, experience with food handing and trucking is preferred.
  • Experience leading significant cost center or full profit and loss including being accountable for maintaining control of spending, labor, and related elements.
  • Strong financial acumen: Demonstrated experience with financial statements including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to ensure capable leadership.
  • Project management skills, including managing simultaneous initiatives at once. 
  • Demonstrable business partnership skills including the ability to establish acceptance and credibility at all levels of the organization. Also, ability to marshal peers and subordinates to operate on the ‘same page’.
  • Proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams 
  • Technology savvy, including the ability to communicate with clarity to technology leadership.
  • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiency in Outlook and Excel
