Abode Services, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, has an opening for a day shift Janitor at our Canyon Vista site in Redwood City. ( M-F, 8 am to 4 p.m.)
POSITION SUMMARY: The Desk Clerk is primarily responsible for the building’s desk station, including oversight of the security personnel assigned under a contractual relationship for a permanent supportive housing facility . This includes working with the Property Manager in the training of security/desk personnel of all property emergency and non-emergency procedures, desk procedures, and ensuring compliance with all organizational and department policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
- Perform semi-skilled and skilled cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas as required on a scheduled frequency.
- Clean/disinfect, empty trash, vacuum, clean windows/walls, dust and mop, strip/wax/buff the common areas, lobby, front desk, staff offices, public restrooms, elevators, entrance ways, exterior perimeters and other assigned areas according to janitorial schedule. Light maintenance may be assigned.
- Perform grounds janitorial duties including perimeter trash pick-up, blowing, pressure-washing and other janitorial grounds tasks based on schedule.
- Perform unit turnover janitorial including removing small/large debris and other cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Removing trash frequently including, composting and recycling.
- May have to dispose and remove hazardous waste material and e-waste material.
- Maintain all equipment and supplies in proper condition. Assist with the distribution, stocking and storage of supplies/inventory. Clean, organize and secure janitor closets.
- Maintain a safe working environment and adheres to all health and safety standards, laws, policies and rules.
- Prepares and closes work orders using a computer or mobile device.
- Maintain punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
- Attend online and in-person trainings that are required for the position; this includes job-specific training and agency-wide trainings.
- As needed, provide support/answer questions/submit recommendations regarding property janitorial needs for a high level of quality and efficiency.
- Foster good staff relationships, cooperation and teamwork between staff under his/her supervision as well as with others in the organization.
- Treat all residents/staff/vendors/visitors to the complex with respect and courtesy and treat all the residents in a non-discriminatory manner.
- Work as a team member with other site staff so that all function as a team and are cooperative with each other, the residents, and visitors to the property.
- Attend staff meetings and other property related meetings as required.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the nature of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications for the position are as follows:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1-2 years ’of related custodian, janitor, porter or housekeeper experience.
- Experience working with cleaning chemicals and using personal protective equipment.
- Light maintenance knowledge is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills; respect for confidentiality; ability to work with diverse populations, including persons with various disabilities and work tactfully within a fast-paced environment.
- A valid California driver’s license, proof of current insurance meeting or exceeding state requirements and vehicle registration, clean (less than 4 points) DMV record and reliable transportation.
- Ability to exert physical effort involving moving around the property, climbing stairs, moving from one area to another or standing for long periods of time.
- Visual acuity necessary to inspect the property and units.
- Able to lift, carry or push items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of custodial power equipment.
