The Planning & Research Studio is a multi-faceted resource to clients and project teams, providing services and expertise that span the full spectrum of planning and building phases. We strategize, analyze, and develop work that informs project owners on their current and future needs, from spaces to buildings. Our planning work focuses on space utilization and optimization studies, project feasibility studies, building programming and planning, and concept designs. For our research work, we actively conduct data-based behavioral post-occupancy studies as well as research literature review and white paper development. We focus on higher education clients, and commercial and civic projects.
We currently offer a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days in the office, 2-3 days working from home, and half-day on Fridays.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Initiates and develops project parameters (goals, criteria), project programs, space, and planning adjacencies
Develops plans that address programmatic requirements
Prepares, or leads a team to prepare presentations and planning & design drawings.
Coordinates planning & design efforts between team members, all consultants, and agencies related to planning
Independently execute planning projects with little or no oversight
Develops and leads client presentations
Oversees Interns, Planner 1, Planner II, and Planner III staff
Collaborates with is directed by the Planning Director.
REQUIREMENTS
8 or more years of relevant work experience in a similar role in an Architectural or Planning office
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Planning, Behavioral field or comparable studies
A high-quality programming, planning portfolio, and relevant work experience are required
Able to independently lead and conduct research, benchmarking, and identify overall industry trends
Knowledge of requirements for different stages of planning including feasibility studies, utilization studies, master planning, programming, and concept design required
Possess a deep understanding of code-related issues, as they pertain to master planning, programming, and feasibility studies
Excellent communicator with team members, consultants, and clients
Highly skilled in Excel, Illustrator, InDesign, and Powerpoint required
Proficiency in at least one drawing/modeling program is required
Demonstrate and inspire excitement and enthusiasm to the team about our projects
Expertise in utilization analysis, programming, and planning required
Proficient with additional 3D modeling, Revit, CAD, and rendering programs preferred
Exhibits curiosity and a willingness to explore options and translate ideas into programming and planning projects
Competently performs assignments independently with the ability to influence planning.
