Access Services wants to welcome a Controller to the finance team responsible for leading the daily finance operations of the organization and ensuring the efficiency of the Finance department! The finance team is growing and expanding, and so is the culture of the team. The controller will provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders by managing financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance to ensure organizational financial health and integrity. As a member of the executive committee, they will be working closely with the CFAO and other senior management to develop financial strategies and accurate financial reporting and ensure policies and procedures are in place to support effective project implementation and successful audits.
Essential Functions of the Controller:
This position is responsible for financial reporting and analysis, grant budgets and funder reports, as well as developing/overseeing the annual agency budget. In addition, this role must ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory and funder requirements, while maintaining separation of duties and keeping policies and procedures current. This position is also the lead point person for the annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation.
The Controller will lead and mentor the Finance Team, collaborate with internal and external partners, and provide resources and support to digitize and streamline processes.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Regularly analyze financial data and present analysis, reconciliations, and reports in an accurate and timely manner; support CFAO in producing accessible, understandable fiscal reports for a variety of audiences/ stakeholders: leadership team, directors, team leaders, board of directors, auditors, funders and clients, government agencies.
- Responsible for all financial, project and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and project budgets throughout the grant/fund period; prepare financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Authorize and keep track of capital expenditures in comparison to the annual budget.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process and include organizational, program, administrative, funders, and capital budgets.
- Monitor and analyze budget performance and variances.
- Provide financial projections and forecasts to support business planning.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Maintain effective governance and financial control processes including documenting and maintaining appropriate finance policies and procedures.
- Manage external audits and work with auditors to facilitate a successful audit process.
- Review bi-weekly payroll to ensure correct allocations and new positions are included.
- Ensure compliance with funder expectations and the completion of SEFA and other funder related schedules (internal audit).
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor the finance team.
- Provide training and development opportunities to team members.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Strategic Financial Planning:
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies.
- Conduct financial modeling and scenario analysis to support business decisions.
- Participate in strategic planning and provide financial insights.
Technology and Systems:
- Oversee the configuration and customization of financial software.
- Research and evaluate financial systems and software that align with the goals and needs of Access Services and the finance department.
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology for process improvements.
- Ensure the system setup supports accurate financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls.
- Ensure data integrity and security within financial systems.
Candidate must meet all qualifying and ongoing job criteria including background checks, physical examination results, and clearances.
Education: Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting is required.
Experience: 7 years of experience in nonprofit accounting is required.

Compensation and Schedule:
The annual salary for this role is $120,000, with increases based on education and experience.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
This is a hybrid role and will be based in our Fort Washington, PA office. The Controller is eligible to work 3 days/week in the office and 2 days/week remotely.

Essential Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Work in a standard office environment. Utilize desktop computer equipment on a daily basis. Able to lift or move items associated with sedentary work and light work (exert up to 20 lbs.) Routinely travel to offsite locations and regional office locations as necessary. May require same physical and lifting requirements as an employee who regularly provides direct care should they be needed to assist.
