General Description: Directly reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position is responsible for implementing company-wide HR policies, initiatives, and programs in support of the company’s strategic plans.  The incumbent will provide HR Business Partner services and guidance in areas including but not limited to workforce planning, leadership coaching and development, conflict resolution, strategic planning, talent acquisition, onboarding, compensation, benefits, employee relations, talent and performance management, organizational design and development, and regulatory compliance efforts (for assigned offices).  To be successful in this role, the incumbent must have strong technical human resources knowledge as a generalist, possess strong business acumen, act with professionalism, integrity, discretion, and adequate urgency in client interactions. The incumbent must have the wherewithal to effectively manage nuance and ambiguity and successfully operate within a larger business partner team. This role would be responsible for the Pasadena and Commerce locations.

Supervision: May supervise HR Assistant(s)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a business partner advisor/coach to employees and managers of assigned office(s).
  • Support talent acquisition efforts, including candidate interviews, and background check reviews to provide insight into hiring decisions. 
  • Within assigned areas of responsibility, manage all employee relations cases, corrective actions, and investigations within client areas.
  • Partner with Hiring Managers to develop job descriptions for new roles. Provide advice, guidance, and counsel to managers and employees regarding employee relations issues.
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze and provide metrics based on data.
  • Support leave of absence administration and lead the interactive process for accommodations for employees within assigned office(s).
  • Partner with COEs on the administration of key activities, including compensation reviews, training and career development, EEO/AAP planning, organizational change management, and employee recognition/anniversary programs.
  • Support the development and implementation of business initiatives and metrics to drive organizational growth.
  • Effectively partner with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization's talent management strategy, particularly as it relates to current and future recruiting needs, retention, and succession planning.
  • Provides strong business partner level support and guidance to managers and employees on complex, specialized, and sensitive matters; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as LOA support in providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations, policy violations, and employment terminations.
  • Creates effective learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Supports compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; assists with policy reviews to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law.
  • Position plays a critical role in driving and enhancing the ACCO culture that supports and promotes compliance with HR regulations and laws.
  • Assist in communications activities in the assigned offices.
  • Other duties as assigned by the HR Director or executive leadership. 

Position Requirements (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities):

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible Human Resources Business Partner experience, preferably in large-scale entrepreneurial and dynamic organizations as the primary point of HR contact with multiple business units.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of California and federal labor laws 
  • High degree of integrity, Emotional Intelligence, and a sense of compassion for others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and previous experience partnering with executive-level leadership.
  • Strong demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills and experience with interpreting data to use in problem resolution.
  • Solutions focused - Ability to investigate and identify root cause issues, then craft and implement effective responses/action plans.
  • Computer proficiency and experience with MS Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage change in a fast-paced, results-driven, and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organization and process management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills combined with solid business acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and utilize available subject matter experts as necessary.
  • Must demonstrate a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration, yet be nimble, innovative yet pragmatic in approach.
  • Must demonstrate strong listening, consultative, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Masters-level degree in a job-related concentration (e.g., HR Management, O/D, Business)
  • Prior HR experience within the construction, engineering, or contracting services industries.
  • PHR/SPHR, SHRM- CP/ SHRM SCP (general or California-specific) certification.

  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch.

Travel:

10-50% of this role will require travel to regional offices. 

COMPETITIVE WAGES:

$110,000 - $140,000 annually. Applicants please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
