Role overview
The Dir, Internal Communications reporting to Sr. Director, Employee Experience & Development, is responsible for the strategic direction, content creation, and project management for Accolade’s employee-facing communications strategy, process, technology, and programs. This critical work ensures the most important messages get to employees, employees know where to go for the information they need, and that Accolade’s mission, values, and strategy are woven into the DNA of internal communications. By leading the strategy, creation, development, and execution of communications you will have a direct impact on inspiring and empowering our employees while driving employee engagement and our company culture.

Responsibilities:
- Design and compose strategic, audience-centric, and inclusive communications strategies to build an informed and engaged workforce across multiple internal communications channels (e.g., intranet, email, talking points, presentations/town halls, videos, social media) and various audiences.
- Works closely with stakeholders across the organization to develop and manage the strategic communications calendar. Responsible for editorial planning, content planning, and content governance.
- Effectively manage themes and messaging for key internal events (e.g., town hall meeting, all-hands events, etc.) to maximize the effectiveness of this employee communications channel. Create decks/draft messages/scripts for senior executives to deliver in written or spoken form.
- Own the systems and tools needed to share information including company-wide intranet with ongoing responsibility for management and platform improvements, as well as driving other employee comms tooling innovations
- Cultivate guidance and a set of communication norms and best practices for company-wide communications that spans a variety of channels including (but not limited to): Slack, email, and intranet
- Identify and implement ways to measure the effectiveness of communications efforts using existing and new measurement tools. Establish and track metrics that help correlate internal communications programs to identified organizational measures.
- Leads and/or supports communication strategies in relation to employees' responses to external social or political crises or situations
- Drive change thoughtfully and proactively, coming up with creative, mission-centered change management solutions.
- Create engaging content and campaigns to showcase Life@Accolade both internally (Slack and our intranet “The Beat”) and externally (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram) to attract candidates and create a strong sense of community and belongingness
- Compose ongoing People & Culture internal organizational lifecycle and recognition communications for things such as promotions, internal movement, new hires, Culture Champions, etc.
- In partnership with Corporate Marketing, build, operationalize and execute a plan and communications strategy to apply for company, team, industry and individual awards to increase brand awareness.
- Continue to maintain vigilance in strengthening the feedback loop by informally or formally responding to feedback/comments/questions on external sites such as Glassdoor
What we are looking for…
- Degree, ideally in Journalism, Communications, PR, or related field
- Seasoned professional with 10 years of experience in a strategic internal communications role (crisis communication experience a plus)
- Experience with end-to-end content development (strategy, planning, research, writing, editing, distribution, measurement)
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- Ability to move seamlessly from detail-oriented work to seeing/creating the bigger picture
- Track record creating effective, innovative communications channels and programs
- Self-directed strategic thinker capable of collaborating with and influencing a range of stakeholders
- Capacity to absorb complex and technical details and distill into digestible, employee-facing communications.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills; executing with speed, high level of accuracy and efficiency, attention to detail, and follow-through
- Ability to engage and build trust with stakeholders, consistently and effectively collaborate with others
- Ability to thrive in high-stress, fast-paced situations with a scrappy attitude
- Strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion
- Commitment to confidentiality and business ethics, demonstrating outstanding judgment and discretion
- Strong project management skills, strict attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email (Outlook) skills.
- Experience working with high-performing teams and against tight deadlines, supporting the needs of and communicating regularly with multiple stakeholders.
- Self-directed, able to operate under pressure and manage multiple projects under deadlines.
