What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tractor Trailer Truck Driving Instructor position at ACCS?

Teaches a course of study that prepares students for entry-level positions within the Truck Driving industry. The Instructor will implement lesson plans and other instructional materials, interview students, develop and maintain student files, monitor students’ academic and driving progress, follow all State and Federal regulations and guidelines relative to Tractor Trailer Trucking operations, and assist with students’ job development, placement and follow-up services. The instructional program includes, but is not limited to: Orientation and Safety; Learning Basic Operations; Practicing Safe Operations; Practicing Advanced Operations; Maintaining Vehicles; Practicing Non-Vehicle Operations; and Using Air Brakes. These activities are accomplished through a combination of classroom instruction, backing exercises, and driving exercises. The Instructor supplements lesson plans with activities based on local job market demands.

Salary:  Commensurate with education and experience according to the College’s Local Salary Schedule

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following:


  • Maintains and ensures all training and administrative forms are complete and accurate
  • Work with the Dean and Director of Workforce Development to develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum.
  • Instructs students who perform at varying levels of abilities and interests
  • Teaches and demonstrates all curriculum functions
  • Accomplishes training through a combination of classroom instructions and hands-on demonstration/performance
  • Coordinates program activities with Career Center and college representatives
  • Monitors students’ progress and provides additional training when necessary
  • Prepare students for written and skills CDL Licensure testing
  • Follows all State and Federal governing policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations for the industry
  • Maintains current knowledge of the hiring requirements of employers
  • Maintains and ensures all training and administrative forms are complete and  accurate
  • Recruits, interviews, and selects students for enrollment
  • Assists students with job placement as well as follow-up activities
  • Serves as student advocate from enrollment through post-placement follow-up
  • Works with minimal supervision and is self-motivated
  • Compiles reports as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Three years of successful work experience in the field
  • Must possess Class “A” CDL license with current long form physical examination

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching/training experience strongly preferred
