What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Engagement Advocate position at ACHR?
The Alabama Council on Human Relations (ACHR) seeks applicants for a Family Engagement Advocate to perform outreach, intake, family assessments, maintaining and obtaining required documentation, crisis management, referrals, follow-up and case-management for program participants. The individual selected will also work closely with other family engagement staff, community agencies and family members to assess and determine needs and document those needs so family members become more confident and self-sufficient. Serve as a catalyst to help parents become active advocates for their children. Responsible for following ACHR procedures and HS/DHR regulations and laws, displaying appropriate work habits by working as a team, keeping necessary records, participating in trainings, staffing, and community engagement opportunities.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
· Responsible for Recruitment, Eligibility, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance to obtain and then maintain a caseload of 60 children.
· Interview and document an in person interview (or if necessary, by phone or ZOOM). Review all related documentation with each family member prior to enrollment per procedures.
· Attend and participate in parent orientations to ensure full enrollment in all centers for Head Start/Early Head Start.
· Work with parents of children who are eligible to/have enrolled to ensure each child has current immunization certificate at enrollment and that it is kept current at all times as well as documentation of current well child check-up within sixty days of enrollment.
· Work with parents through intake, assessment, referral, follow-up, and as appropriate, crisis management, to address needs/concerns in areas including education, housing, health, parenting, financial management skills and other needs/skills/concerns that may be identified.
Entry into the applicant pool requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in social work or related field with relevant work experience desired. Will consider AA or high school diploma with a significant amount of relevant work experience.
