What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Start Director position at ACHR?
Job Summary: Following established program standards and agency policies and procedures, direct and administer the ACHR Child Development program, primarily Head Start and Early Head Start.
· Know or quickly learn in some depth ALL areas of Head Start including Family Engagement, ERSEA, Education (classrooms and home-based), Health Services and Governance, non-federal share, and related HS budget so is able to supervise and guide the activities of staff working in these areas.
· With Management Team regularly review data to assure compliance with program criteria, HS law and Performance Standards, DHR Performance Standards, and ACHR policies and see that all deadlines are met routinely.
· Work with staff to plan for and write quality Community Assessments, Strategic Plans, and Self Assessment/Improvement Plans that meet requirements, and timelines and that support the annual E/HS grant application and adjustments in goals and objectives.
· Work with E/HS Management Team to plan, organize, develop, implement and monitor strategies to meet program goals and objectives as set forth in the first-year grant of the 5-year cycle.
· Regularly monitor program progress toward goals; as needed, revise them and continue monitoring to meet the needs. Ensure program data from all areas is reported regularly to Board and Policy Council.
· Work with Volunteer Services/Community Outreach Manager to assure that the program meets the annual Non-Federal Share requirements.
· Work with Fiscal Coordinator to develop program budget and monitor expenditures.
· Work with staff to determine the professional development (PD) needs of each member of the E/HS staff and assist with the implementation of the PD program to include continuous improvement of staff and program.
· Resolve complex problems related to the E/HS programs, interpret policies as needed, and as needed handle complaints in an appropriate manner following policies and procedures.
· Represent the ACHR Child Development Program at local, state, and national meetings; serve on committees and boards on behalf of the ACHR-CDP and its clients as agreed on with the CEO.
· Perform other duties as assigned and required.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a degree in early childhood, education, counseling, social work, or a related field and at least five (5) years of Head Start program administrative experience including supervision of staff, fiscal management, and administration or equivalent combinations of training and /or experience. Professional demeanor and appearance, courtesy, dependability, decision-making skills, confidentiality, excellent ability to read, write and utilize a computer (including on data programs such as ChildPlus), experience in locating and writing grants. Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and vehicle insurance as travel (within and outside our counties) is required. Must pass a criminal background check and similar.
