Job Description
Plans, performs, and executes engineering research and design development for both new products and existing products. Performs design/HDL analysis, including high speed and low power designs. Participates in simulation, verification, and integration tasks. Takes algorithmic or functional specifications and coverts that to a design that can be implemented for use in a lab or field environment. Develops models, simulate and verify designs, fabricate prototypes, and test hardware solutions. Creates and maintains accurate and detailed design files. Candidate should possess experience in electrical engineering and a track record of demonstrating designs on hardware. Digital HDL design experience is required, including complex, high-speed HDL based implementations of algorithms targeting programmable logic devices (PLDs, FPGA, ASIC,etc), microprocessors, DSP and/or ARM processors. Hands-on experience with code design, simulation and testing is required.
Background/Need
The Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group develops, builds, and operates prototype space and airborne lasercom terminals. The technology developed and the lessons learned from these activities are transferred to operational programs through participation in standard groups and through the operation of a gold- standard test infrastructure. Major efforts include demonstration of a low-cost, high performance, prototype airborne lasercom terminals, designed for the lasercom interoperability standards, development of a test capability to validate inoperability among various contractor-produced terminals, and investigation into techniques to enable multiple simultaneous lasercom links through a single aperture

-In-depth knowledge of Xilinx Virtex FPGAs, and Versal MPSoC.
-Additionally, the candidate must be able to function proficiently in an exclusive UNIX-based environment.

-Laboratory test equipment, network test equipment
-Source code/revision control tools.
-Implementation experience with JESD204B and JESD204C interfaces and realization of high-performance DSP algorithms are a must.
-Should be able to develop implementation architectures from requirements documents or high-level specifications/descriptions; use and maintain legacy IP and build environments; troubleshoot designs operating within an integrated system.
-Experience with DDR3 and DDR4 memory, terrestrial network standards, and design and debug of complex circuit boards.
-VHDL proficiency,
-High speed digital design and lab debug
-100Gbe experience
-High speed networking protocol knowledge
-Proven track record delivering hardware, signal processing.
-Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work in a high functioning design team
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of Matlab, Perl, TCL, System C, System Verilog.
Candidates with a background in space programs is a HUGE plus.
This position is 90-100% onsite. The candidate should be prepared to be onsite just about every day with some limited flexibility due to the nature of the hardware that they will be working on.
Interim clearance is sufficient for start; there could be program work assigned that would require advanced clearance
